​Goldie came to us from Tucson on October 29th with a compound fracture of her right tarsal bone.  She apparently broke it on Oct 21 but not given up to an adoption group until the 26th.  The severity of the break and the fact that it was compound was not discovered until she got to the vet's office in Tucson on Monday the 26th.  Once the severity of the break was known and the AZ vet discussed amputation as a good possibility the Tucson adoption group contacted GreySave. Together we decided to get Goldie over to a very experienced orthopedic vet in CA.  Thanks to Jay & Stephanie she is at the vet's and comfortable.  They believe they can save her leg but it may require two surgeries.  She will need a medical foster home that lives close to Irvine and can take her to the vets at least weekly for several months.

Great news --
Ari has been found and is home with his mom. He seems to be OK but his pads are all chewed up so he is going to the vets. I will get more details and let you know them later. Right now a BIG cheer and sigh of relief!!

Loose Greyhound in Costa Mesa - Our recently adopted greyhound named now named Ari got loose this morning, Thursday 10/15. He was accosted by a pair of Jack Russell terriers while walking and got off his leash. We believe he still has his collar and tags on.  Ari's mom and several volunteers are in the area searching for him.  

Ari is a brindle boy and was last seen running north on Placentia Ave in Costa Mesa. The cross streets are Hamilton/Victiria.   He is a spookie, frightened boy and probably will not come to anyone easily so what we need is sightings right now.

Since our last homecoming GreySave has taken in three new broken leg greyhounds.  They are Bonkers, Panko and Max.  Max came in yesterday and his surgery is scheduled for Monday.  All of their leg injuries are about the same.  The right rear leg, the same kind of break (central tarsal bone) and the good news is that the bones are not shattered so can be repaired with screws.  That does not mean these broken legs are inexpensive.  Their surgeries cost GreySave at a minimum $2800 to $3200 for the initial surgery. 
 
Since Max is the 15th broken leg grey GreySave has brought in this year we are looking for a few greyhound angels to help us support the broken kids.
 
There are two ways you may be able to help!  One is donating to the GreytLove Medical Fund.  To learn more about this fund go to http://www.greysave.org/greytlove-medical-fund.html  GreytLove donors will get a very nice thank you letter for your tax deductible donation, knowledge that 100% of your money will go to the greyhound you select and updates on the greyhounds progress.  The other way is to Foster a broken leg dog!
