It’s the last, last, last chance for you to be able to help GreySave come across the year-end financially in the black, not the red.
This year the expense of getting retired racing greyhounds off the racetrack and ready to adopt has again been more expensive than the year(s) past. Through today, we have brought in 99 new hounds however an amazing 25% of them have had injuries or illness that cost GreySave between $1,000 and $6,000 each for direct veterinary expense. These direct vet costs do not include the cost of medicines; shots; spays/ neuters; or dentals that you would consider the NORMAL costs of getting a greyhound ready for adoption. So far this year of the $92K GreySave has spent for direct veterinary expenses 95% of it has been for the 25 greys that have come in broken or ill.
GreySave, like most of the other west coast greyhound groups, does not get any financial support from either the racing industry or the state’s budgets where greyhound tracks reside as some organizations further east do. Plus we probably get a much higher proportion of injured dogs than they do.
So GreySave needs to rely on generous friends of our greys to cover the new kids higher then normal veterinary needs. In years prior to 2014 or 2015, the special financial needs have been just met but in the last two years the expenses are higher and the income has not risen fast enough to meet all the costs. As a group, we do not and will not leave behind hounds in need but over time we will burn out the financial reserve we have from a few years back. That is unless you can help just a bit more this year.
GreySave has a mailing list of just short of 900 followers with over 1,000 adopted greys plus at least 1,480 Facebook followers from all over the country and even the world. We know that many of you may be on all three lists but even if just half of our followers send in $30, $40 or $50 each between now and the 31st we would more than break even. Yes, we have many friends and benefactors that donate significant amounts each year but we are asking for help from our other followers and adopters who have yet to step up in a financial way and help those special needs greys that will someday, when recovered fully be someone’s Forever Friend. So if you can help please do!
There are a couple ways to donate but the most expedient way is to go through GreySave’s website donation page at http://www.greysave.org/donate.html and donate through PayPal.
However if you prefer to send a check send it to GreySave, PO Box 632, La Canada CA 91012-0632. For it to be considered a 2015 donation the check needs to be dated before the end of the year and the envelope POSTMARKED no later than 12/31/15!!
Thank you so much for your consideration of the greater needs of the GreySave broken and sick hounds.
