OUR GREYHOUNDS
We will be taking in and processing a limited number of applications as we are currently getting 3-5 ex-racers from the West Virginia track every month or two as well as a handful of greyhounds from a local shelter or as a bounce back when someone passes or has significant family changes. We do give priority to our current adopters and prior greyhound adopters from other groups but we still do place greyhounds with people with medium to large dog experience and a loving heart.
GreySave, like most greyhound adoption groups, has a policy of not adopting to families with children 6 years-old or younger. For more information on young children and greyhounds, see the articles on our site here.
Available Hounds

Diane Keaton - Available
Racing Name:
Age: approx 4 | Sex: F | Color: white and tan brindle
Homecoming Ht: Wt: lbs
Medium dog - Y | Small dog - Y | Cat tolerant -Y
Diane Keaton was found on the mean streets. That’s nowhere a kind lady like this belongs. She was named after the late actress because she’s slim, elegant, and no one knows how old she is. (the doctor guesses she’s 4). Keaton is really learning how to be a dog and learning the “sit” and “down” commands. She still doesn’t quite understand toys yet. She loves people, enjoys belly rubs, and hot dogs. There is no aggressive bone in her body, though she gets spooked easily as once being a street dog, always a street dog. Keaton does not like traffic and cars, so is best suited walking away from the busy street or being in a quiet location. She’s improved so much since we found her, skin and bones, and she’s since gained 8lbs. Her resting face is even a little smile.

Blackie - Available
Racing Name:
Age: 1.6 | Sex: M | Color: Black
Homecoming Ht: Wt: lbs
Medium dog - Y | Small dog - ? | Cat tolerant - ?
Blackie is a handsome, energetic, 18-month-old guy who would love to be someone's lifelong friend. He loves being close to his people and is truly a velcro boy. He's a mischievous iimp who will entertain you with his playfulness by tossing toys in the air and trying to catch them. Blackie is eager to go for car rides, has a healthy appetite, and enjoys attention. He shares his home with two other greyhounds who have taught him how to use the doggy door, climb stairs, and ignore the strange dog in the mirror.
Blackie would probably do well with another dog in the household or someone who is home most of the time.

Sally - Adopted!
Racing Name: Schmaltz
Age: 7 | Sex: F | Color: Brindle and White
Homecoming Ht: | Wt: 58 lbs
Medium dog - Y | Small dog - Y | Cat tolerant - N
Sally is a sweet 7-year-old speckled girl who has been in her foster home since July. In that time she’s blossomed into a confident, affectionate, and loyal companion. She has settled in beautifully and now relaxes comfortably even when her foster parents are out for a while. Having another dog around has played a big role in her confidence, so we believe she’d be happiest in a home with a canine friend to keep her company. She is very polite and has no space or food aggression issues, aside from some playful nibbling to let you know when she's ready for dinner!
She’s an active, silly girl who adores sprinting around the yard and tossing her toys in the air, but is equally content to spend much of the day snoozing peacefully—she has that perfect greyhound blend of “go-go-go” and “couch potato.”
All in all, she’s a loyal and sweet girl who is ready to find her forever family

Starlink - Adopted!
Racing Name:
Age: 2.1 | Sex: M | Color: Brindle
Homecoming Ht: Wt: 69 lbs
Medium dog - Y | Small dog - Y | Cat tolerant - Y
Starlink (“Link”) is the perfect boy. He stole his foster parents’ hearts immediately, and they adopted him. There was never really a question about it. We were all-in after day one. Besides, if we weren’t going to adopt him, we had several neighbors who wanted to get in line.
Link loves people, and gives cuddles willingly. He walks daily with neighborhood dogs of every size. He gets along with small dogs and cats. Cats will sleep next to him, or taunt him by starring and flicking their tails – the way cats do – and Link ignores them. He’s also great with horses, and loves the barn.
In the house, Link does well. He knows his boundaries and respects them. He is not allowed on the furniture or in the human bed. He has several beds around the house, and will chose the one closest to where the humans are. At night, he sleeps in the bedroom on his own bed.
At first, Link did not like to be left alone in the house. He would whine for a few minutes, and then lay down in his bed. Of course, he would take a shoe (or several) to his bed with him. We are grateful he had no interest in chewing them – he just wanted them in his bed. Maybe he thought that having the shoes close to him guaranteed that the humans would return sooner. However, now that he has settled into the home, he is fine being left alone for several hours when needed.
Link travels in the car well – and we try to expose him to as much as possible (i.e., coffee shops, restaurants). In the beginning, a few loud noises surprised him. But, he’s gotten used to them and doesn’t react much anymore. He loves to go for walks and hang with his humans. He might play with a toy briefly, but prefers lying next to people and getting a head or belly scratch.
Link can be a picky eater. At this point, he prefers eating at lunch and at 6pm. He prefers moistened kibble mixed with two spoonful’s of dog food, preferably chicken or fish based. He is great about having his teeth brushed nightly. Link rocks!

Delight - Adopted!
Racing Name:
Age: 1.5 | Sex: F | Color: Fawn
Homecoming Ht: Wt: 62 lbs
Medium dog - Y | Small dog - N | Cat tolerant - N
Delight is a sweet delicate girl who loves snuggling, spooning, kisses, ear and tummy rubs, you name it! She has figured out dog and people beds but not yet couches. Delight is overcoming her intense nervousness daily.
In the 3 weeks she's been at her foster home, she's come out of her shell beautifully. She is still very wary of new people, especially men. Delight is very good on leash and loves walks but gets freaked out by other dogs and people out in the world. But not an issue when she has met them in her home. This girl is an absolute gem, born to smooch, and all she needs is time.

Marina - Adopted!
Racing Name: Marina Mabrey
Age: 6.9 | Sex: F | Color: Black
Homecoming Ht: Wt: 63.8 lbs
Medium dog - Y | Small dog - Y | Cat tolerant - ?
Marina is a sweet and spunky lady, full of energy and is often mistaken as a young puppy. A smart and fast learning girl, she has spent the last year getting to know life off of the track after six years of champion racing across the US and at Caliente. She is extremely curious and caring. She loves to go on walks and sniffaris, chasing after squirrels and cats in the neighborhood. When excited, she will zoom around and chase after her ball but is still learning how to fetch. She loves love, people and a soft bed. She has wonderful home manners, has never been destructive, begged, or jumped on counters. She would benefit from an experienced handler in new or loud environments. She responds well to commands like 'Leave It', 'Turn', 'Eyes on Me', and 'Wait'. She would do well in a home with a yard and a pack. The key to her heart is a slice of American cheese or peanut butter, and lots of scritches.

Dottie - Adopted!
Racing Name:
Age: 1.5 | Sex: F | Color: Fawn
Homecoming Ht: Wt: 67 lbs
Medium dog - Y | Small dog - Y | Cat tolerant - Y
Dotti is a definitely a puppy! She’s a Velcro baby and pro cuddler, although she might step on you while finding the perfect position. Her adorable overbite makes her curious nose even pointer for getting into everything. She will calm down with age, but her pure, undying love for you will never fade. Dotti is learning how to be a dog from her foster sisters and would do well with a patient sibling. She loves playing with toys but doesn’t seem interested in running, so she doesn’t need a lot of space. She does not tolerate being crated. She is trainable and can even sit! She would enjoy learning tricks or maybe even agility.

Bex - Adopted!
Racing Name: Bless This Mess
Age: 6 | Sex: F | Color: Brindle
Homecoming Ht: Wt: 54 lbs
Medium dog - Y | Small dog - Y | Cat tolerant - ?
Bex is a perfectly petite little lady! She has a beautiful, soft, full brindle coat that begs to be pet…and she sure enjoys her pets! She is an easy-going gal that enjoys her daily walks, naps and play time. She would greatly benefit from having another dog to play with and learn from, and a yard to frolic and sunbathe in. She likes to squeak toys but is still learning how to play with them. She shows no signs of food or toy aggression. Her bed is her safe space, so it’s best to let her keep that all to herself. (She gave me a little warning)
She is a wonderful, happy girl with such a positive little spirit. She is so much fun to have around the house. She is an early riser and sends herself to bed when she’s ready. Fully potty trained and smart as a whip! She learned the doggie door in about 5 seconds!
She has a tiny bit of separation anxiety but a canine pal would help ease that. She doesn’t jump on the couch or bed, but can probably be taught to if you want her company while watching tv. She’s an independent girl.

Jerry - Adopted!
Racing Name: Jerry London
Age: 7 | Sex: M | Color: Tan and White
Homecoming Ht: Wt:
Medium dog - Y | Small dog - N | Cat tolerant - N
Jerry is a very relaxed and retired greyhound who just wants love and pets.
He raced at Caliente racetrack where he came originally came with a broken leg.
Jerry is a bounce back after 5 years - no fault to Jerry! He is good on a leash and would be perfect as an only dog or with a companion greyhound.
Jerry's Likes: Retirement, bed, meaty treats, pets, love and attention!
Jerry's Dislikes: Dogs going near his bed, getting his teeth brushed (though you can do it anyway), baths, and someone outside the door (give a deep bark).

Jerry's Neutral About: yogurt, peanut butter, toys, cats and small dogs.

Mamba - Adopted!
Racing Name: GI's Sporty Man
Age: 2.6 | Sex: M | Color: Black
Homecoming Ht: Wt: 79 lbs
Medium dog - Y | Small dog - Y | Cat tolerant - Y
Mamba is a sweet and gentle boy. He looks to his greyhound foster brother for guidance, likes to eat together, and go outside together. He was nervous about the stairs in my house at first, but he is a pro now. He does not like to be alone but does not cry, bark, or show other signs of separation anxiety. Mamba loves to go for a walk. If he hears a loud noise outside, he gets close and leans on me. He is good in the car, especially after a walk; he goes right to sleep. He prefers the backseat, so he is near the people in the front. He is a good eater and is curious about food but does not take anything unless you give it to him. He likes to investigate a little before committing to eating anything. Mamba loves toys and playing independently.

Brice - Adopted!
Racing Name: Special Ops
Age: 3.2 | Sex: M | Color: Black
Homecoming Ht: Wt: 85 lbs
Medium dog - Y | Small dog - N | Cat tolerant - N
Brice is a sweet, sweet boy. He came to us a little shy but has become more and more outgoing each day. He loves to go on walks and/or just to be outside. He walks well on a leash. He would do wonderfully in a home with a backyard where he can just lay and hang out in the grass. He shares the home well with our greyhound. He is not possessive of toys, dog beds or food. Our dog is allowed on the couch, but we do not let the fosters on the couch in case their forever parents do not. Brice has not once tried to get up on the couch even while our dog is up there with us getting some love. Brice is very affectionate, loving to get pets and give kisses. We have not observed any signs of sleep startle in him. He is fully potty trained, not one accident in the house. We do not have a doggy door, but Brice will go to the door when he needs to go out. Brice and our 3.5-year-old greyhound love to play, zooming around the yard and wrestling for the typical greyhound 5 minutes before coming in to take a nap. Brice was a little too interested in both the small dog and cat during testing. However, we have a tortoise that we have been able to introduce to Brice carefully over time without incident. He is really good at responding to “No” or “Leave it” when he starts to do something he shouldn’t.

Diane - Adopted!
Racing Name: Del Rio Diana
Age: 9 | Sex: F | Color: White and tan
Homecoming Ht: Wt:
Medium dog - Y | Small dog - Y | Cat tolerant - N
Diana has been in a home for 5 years. Unfortunately, her dad recently passed away, so GreySave took her in. She is a lovely calm girl who made a quick adjustment in this foster home. She made herself comfy on all the dog beds and found the basket of toys. She rapidly removed any squeakers and stuffing from several of them. It is her "game". She is comfortable with the other two dogs and happily greets house guests and the neighbors we see on walks. She has beautiful eyes and makes good eye contact as she waits for gentle petting. Her appetite is improving and is always excited about meals. She walks well on a leash, loves treats but waits till the other dogs get theirs first. A true lady. She will do well in a home with a companion dog.

Lisa - Adopted!

Lisa is a gem of a black beauty! Petite, polite and a huge cuddle bug! She loves to meet people and soak up the attention while wagging her tail joyfully. She travels like a pro, excellent on a leash and walk. She has no sleep aggression nor separation anxiety.
Lisa thoroughly enjoys a back yard and is content to sit and observe nature. Her current hobby is keeping an eye out for squirrels. Lisa is a perfect mix of charm and intelligence-ready to bring joy and companionship to her future home. She would need to have a greyhound buddy at home to hang out with as she is eager to play.
If you are looking for the sweetest greyhound to curl up with you on the couch and allow her to sleep on your bed as she loves to stay cozy with her humans, then Lisa is your girl! Lisa retired in Australia and was transported to Los Angeles.

Liam - Adopted!
Racing Name:
Age: | Sex: M | Color: Fawn

Are you looking for a loving companion with warm brown eyes and a sweet demeanor? Then look no more, Liam is the dog for you. This handsome boy is sure to turn heads while out on walks. He loves being close to his people and will often check on you to make sure you know he's there for you. He's a mischievous imp who will entertain you with his playfulness by tossing toys in the air and chasing lizards in the yard. Liam is eager to go for rides, has a healthy appetite, and is just discovering how much fun life can be as a pet. He shares his foster home with 2 other greyhounds who are teaching him how to use the doggy door, climb stairs, and ignore the strange dog in the mirror. This delightful fellow would probably do well with another dog or someone who is home to keep him company.

Squid- Adopted!
Racing Name: Sid the Squid
Age: 2 | Sex: M | Color: dark brindle
Homecoming Ht: Wt: 62 lbs
Medium dog - Y | Small dog - Y | Cat tolerant - Y
Squid's lack of racing experience and relative youth make him a very unique "retiree". While Squid behaves much like most greyhounds (sleeping, leaning, quiet demeanor), he also has a more puppy-like personality at times that can be very silly. He loves collecting your things to put in his bed like shoes (no damage, just theft and sniffing) and throwing short toddler tantrums when he doesn't get to sample your food.
Squid is also very loving and has become quite the cuddler. While this loving nature results in some separation anxiety, this has been easy to manage with the usual strategies and resulted in no major issues (just a little whining). He is also still building confidence with stairs - able to do shorter flights and steps but less confident in steeper longer flights.
Overall, Squid is a delightfully sweet young grey who enjoys hanging out with people, exploring new places, and being a little prankster.

Hazel - Adopted!
Racing Name:
Age: 3 | Sex: F | Color: Fawn
Homecoming Ht: Wt:
Medium dog - Y | Small dog - Y | Cat tolerant - ?
Hazel is a high energy girl who loves to play and go on walks. When playtime is done, she loves to cuddle up on the couch. She does not do well alone. She enjoys being around people and her greyhound foster brother. She does well around all other dogs she has met of all breeds and sizes. Hazel is very smart and was in a training program before she came to us. She is very responsive to treats and commands. She sits and waits for her dinner although she is very food motivated. She walks well on a leash after getting over the initial excitement of getting out the door.

Betsey - Adopted!
Racing Name: Baby Doll
Age: 1.5 | Sex: F | Color: White and Red
Homecoming Ht: 25" Wt: 54.00
Medium dog - Y | Small dog - Y | Cat tolerant - Y
She is a sweet and lovable little girl. Her favorite pastime besides playing with toys is giving out kisses. She loves all humans even more so than any other animal. She has a good amount of sound sensitivity but is working through it. She no longer has a problem with hair dryers or vacuum cleaners but the big old bad gardener still makes her hide in the closet. She seems to be very easily trainable and loves to eat. She's been living as and only and I think she is doing okay with that. Her 18 months old age is coming out day by day as she learns life outside the racing world.

Buster - Adopted!

Homecoming Ht: Wt: 61.7 lbs/ 28 kg
Medium dog - Y | Small dog - N | Cat tolerant - N
Meet Buster, a friendly and easy-going boy who adapts quickly to new environments. He was calm and relaxed when introduced to a new setting, happily sniffing around and making himself at home. Buster is great with people and gets along wonderfully with larger breeds of dogs—he’s particularly friendly with Izzy, a female greyhound, and had no issues with two large male dogs. Buster walks beautifully on the lead and enjoys spending time with his humans. If you’re looking for a laid-back, sociable, and well-behaved companion, Buster would be the perfect addition to your family! Buster retired in Australia and was transported to Los Angeles.

Racing Name: Gonz Mistica
Age: 3.0 | Sex: F | Color: Black
Homecoming Ht: 24.5 Wt: 54.00
Medium dog - Y | Small dog - N | Cat tolerant - N
Demi is a high energy little charmer who came back to Greysave through no fault of her own. She is super affectionate, and loves to snuggle with her foster parents as well as her foster greyhound brothers. She's always up for a play session, and loves ripping through the dog door when she suspects a squirrel is taunting her from the back fence. Because of her interest in squirrels, as well as cats , small dogs and even birds, Demi would need to have a home without any of the above! She gets excited for walks, but when the door is actually open, becomes a little shy and hesitant. She walks willingly, but as soon as you turn for home, she will pull you down the street to get there if you let her! Same with car rides. She is anxious to go, but once in the car, her teeth are chattering and she curls up in corner. She would probably get over these things - it just needs time and repetition. Demi eats well, and sleeps through the night. She gets along better with males than females, and definitely needs a home with another grey or two. She might live with a female, but she does love the boys. She also loves toys, and will suddenly get the bug to play , and grab a stuffie and go crazy playing all by herself! If you'd like to add another grey to your pack, she's your girl !And she doesnt take up much room - curls up to the size of a beach ball ( a cute one!)

She's always hoping for an invitation inside, where she'd love to curl up and enjoy some cozy companionship. Sweet, tall, sturdy, fun and curious. That’s the boy called King! What else to know about this striking blue greyhound: Walks well on a leash without pulling or darting. Hits the pillow each night with a smile, sleeps through the night and wakes with his tail in high gear. Eats breakfast and dinner without fuss. No accidents in the house. Eagerly jumps into cars and enjoys the ride while drooling on your windows. Not high prey but very curious about every critter he sees: dogs, cats, squirrels, lizards, birds, etc. King catches on quickly and shows remarkable communication skills in the brief time he has been in our home. Exhibits no interest in getting on furniture or beds at this point. He gets told so often how beautiful he is — by friends and strangers - that he assumes every human deserves an audience with the King. He can be an only dog if his people are home most of the time. He is in good health and his teeth are pearly white. King is tentative on hardwood floors. We put runners down, much to his delight.

Her anxiety has reduced from taking her on a long walk in the morning and at night. she gets along well with her greyhound foster brother and any other dogs she meets.

Vulcan is great with people and dogs of all ages and sizes, always gentle and friendly, and totally comfortable in hectic public places like the mall or sidelines of the LA Marathon! He’s also fantastic on walks, matching your pace, though he’ll occasionally want to chase a squirrel (but no birds or other critters). He’s house-trained, eats well, doesn’t bark (except for an occasional squirrel alert), is responding well to separation training, and is crate-trained but would love to sleep with you if you’re up for it. His easygoing nature extends to bath time, nail trims, and having his teeth touched – he’s a total champ. He has no reaction to doorbells, the TV, or any other appliances or loud noises. He sleeps soundly through the night, loves car rides, and is a great companion for any activity, whether it’s relaxing or playing. Vulcan is truly a loving, loyal friend who just wants to be around you (and nuzzled against you, if you’ll let him). Could you be the one to give him the forever home he deserves?

He has shown no separation anxiety while we’re out of the house. He’s dog & cat friendly and has little prey drive, preferring to smell the flowers over chasing a squirrel. He’s a very eager walker and does a little dance when you reach for his leash. This curious, playful, snuggly boy is a greyhound on easy-mode and wins hearts wherever he goes. Re-homed at no fault of his own, this hound is honestly perfect and deserves a home (with lots of rugs/carpet for traction!) where he can be loved.

Age: 2.4 | Sex: F | Color: Red and White
Homecoming Ht: Wt: 63.00
Medium dog - Y | Small dog - Y | Cat tolerant - ?
Marty is as sweet as can be! She is a shy little lady who came to us from Hemopet. She doesn’t love being approached, but will happily plop next to you on the couch & give you kisses. Her confidence is definitely getting better over time, but having a companion dog is key! If she sees us loving on our other pets she will excitedly come over, tail wagging, and ask for pets. She really loves the company of other dogs & will get everybody playing out in the yard. She is a very gentle player & knows when to stop. Marty does require a home with a yard, she loves to go on walks (and is a great gentle walker!) but refuses to use the bathroom while on a leash. She is a bit of a chewer when it comes to toys, so we just always keep an eye on her when she is playing with soft toys. Besides chewing her toys, we haven’t had any issues with her chewing on anything in our home. She is very gentle & has no issues with you taking toys away from her. She is incredibly sweet & has a really cute large head, you can’t help but love her! Once she warms up to you she can be incredibly affectionate.

Fraizer - Adopted!
Racing Name:
Age: 8 | Sex: M | Color: Black
Medium dog - Y | Small dog - Y | Cat tolerant - N
Fraizer is a big boy, but don't let his size fool you! This greyhound/wolfhound mix is a gentle, sweet guy. Frazier lived a very quiet, domestic life in Wyoming. He's adjusting to all the sounds and sites of Los Angeles. He is an excellent walker, who doesn't pull and stays by your side. Frazier gets along with other dogs as he's always been around them in the house. He's currently a big, loveable only dog, but he may be better suited with companion dogs of all sizes (no cats). Frazier also likes catching toys, responds to his name, and will alert you when someone is coming to the house (though if someone does come in, he will just sit on the couch). He's more of an alarm than a guard dog. He truly loves a couch, so make sure you want a couch dog potato because that's his preferred position.
Frazier was released by his owner (no fault to Frazier) due to owner's serious life events.

Willow - Adopted!
Racing Name:
Age: 3.6 (est) | Sex: F | Color: Fawn
Height: 28 in Weight: 60 lbs (est)
Medium dog - Y | Small dog - N | Cat tolerant - N
Willow is a young hound that has a very big personality. She is food motivated and smart, already knowing obedience commands like sit, down, go to bed, and shake a paw. She is a dog that bonds quickly to her human and will follow you around to be pet and cuddled. Willow is dog door trained and has had zero accidents in her foster home. She has no problem with stairs or slick surfaces, travels well in the car and walks great on a leash. Willow is vocal and loves to play hard with large/medium sized dogs with the same energy level. She is a dog that requires a yard, a large dog housemate and a human home as much as possible that wants a Velcro dog to spoil.
Explanation of the Medium dog/Small dog/Cat Tolerance Listings
Nearly all greyhounds get along very well with dogs of medium size or larger, regardless of breed. But some do not get along with small, we mean very small dogs or cats. In the dog & cat tolerant listings above, the first letter refers to how we think the greyhound would do with medium sized dog, then small dogs and the third as to how we think they would do with cats. The listings above for the small dogs and cats are for the most part are based on how the greyhound tested when he first came off the track. Some listings have been adjusted as we've seen how he has done in his foster home. The medium dog listing is based on the greyhound's experience while they are in a foster home.
An "N" for small dogs and cats listing above means that, in our judgment, this dog is not suited to live with either small dogs (under 15 or 20 pounds) or a cats. A "W" listing in either category means that the greyhound, with proper training and supervision such as an experienced greyhound adopter could provide, could learn to live with small dogs or cats. A "Y" listing means that the greyhound with proper supervision initially should adapt quickly to life with your small dogs and cats. Quite a few of our dogs have lived in foster homes with indoor cats and because they have special credentials we reserve these hounds for families with cats. We don't test for tolerance for outside cats since all bets are off if a normally inside cat ran by a greyhound who has been trained to chase. A "TBD" listing usually means that the dog has not yet been tested.
