The GREYTLOVE MEDICAL FUND
All donations to the Greytlove fund will go directly to a greyhound with extraordinary medical needs whether it is to recover from a broken leg, a long-term illness, or some other injury or accident. This fund allows the donor to send their contribution in the name of a sick or injured greyhound. Your donations will be acknowledged by a thank you for your tax-deductible gift. You will also receive specific information on how your sponsored greyhound is doing. See the list of greyhounds available to sponsor on our Medical Hold list under Adoptable Greyhounds.

At times GreySave brings in a dog with extraordinary medical needs -- whether for a broken leg, a long-term illness, or due to some other injury or accident. The medical costs for healing these greyhounds can be very high. In fact, it may cost 15 to 20 times more to prepare one of our special “medical” greyhounds for adoption than it does to prepare a healthy dog. But leaving these ill and injured dogs behind is not an option since we know that once they are healthy again, they can lead long, happy lives.
GreySave has established a special fund for dogs with extraordinary medical requirements. It's called the GreytLove Fund. Monies donated to this fund are used exclusively for our foster greyhounds with special medical needs. We need your help to make sure that they can get the care they so desperately need and deserve.

Eight to 10 percent of the greyhounds we take in have extraordinary medical needs that can cost $1,000 or more per dog. The majority are broken legs.
Breaks come in several degrees of severity, requiring different levels of treatment:
Exceptional illnesses are somewhat less common than broken legs. These illnesses include excessive post-surgical bleeding, Valley Fever, Tick Borne diseases, autoimmune diseases and exposure to toxins. Veterinary services and medicines in these cases are expensive and recovery time varies greatly. But our costs average $2,900 per severely-ill greyhound.
Each greyhound, each injury, and each illness is unique, but our goal is always the same: restore the animal to health so he can become part of a loving family and lead a full, exuberant life. We need your help to do that.
You can contribute to the GreyLove Fund via the Donate button, or by taking part in our annual GreySave Benefactor fund drive.

Breaks come in several degrees of severity, requiring different levels of treatment:
- Splinting but not surgery: This costs from $1000 to $1200 and can take 8 to 12 weeks of recovery time in a special medical foster home.
- Surgery with screws: This costs from $3,000 to $5,000. Recovery time in a special medical foster home can take two to three months.
- Surgery with a plate and screws: This costs from $4,000 to $6,000. Removal of the plates, sometimes required, adds $650 to $1,000. Recovery time in a special medical foster home can take four to five months.
