With 2015 coming to an end GreySave is planning its last Homecoming next Saturday. We plan to bring in the greys from the Caliente track. At this point, we do not know how many dogs are waiting to come back to the states but the more we get out of Caliente on this planned Homecoming the less will be there to cause an emergency Homecoming just before the end of the year - or at least that seems logical right now!
We have ONLY 12 dogs available for adoption right now, plus 3 have their adoptions pending. There are 9 medical dogs. Of the medical dogs 7 have broken legs. The other two are not on website and are in special medical foster homes.
At this point, we need some help from our volunteers, adopters and yes, our donors. First, we need more experienced and new foster homes over the holiday season! Sometimes this is a good time to foster because people have time off and actually don't travel away from home over this busy season. We need the foster homes to take a regular healthy foster, a broken foster or a become part of our Foster-to-Adopt program. We need the adopters who have been watching our website but have not yet taken the steps need to adopt one of the greyt we have on our site. Most of the 12 greys waiting for their Forever Home are either "not only hounds" or in some cases a bit more interested in fast moving small critters (exactly what they were bred for). All these dogs have been in foster homes long enough to have wonderful people centered personalities and can walk just fine on a leash with a knowledgable adopter. The other thing we need is year-end donations to cover the barrage of broken greyhounds that have come to us over the last few months. At this point, I have lost count of the number or % of brokens we have brought in but it is a significant increase from prior years.
