LindaLinda -- Adopted and living in Duarte
Racing Name:
CW's Lucky Linda
Age: 3 1/2 Sex: F Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/W

Linda has a beautiful black coat and is becoming a wonderful companion. Her perfect home would have a large container of toys that she could empty at least twice a day, plus a human with unlimited love and the time to stroke her fur whenever she strolls by. In return, Linda will give much love, devotion and friendship. She is a Velcro hound and will go wherever you go. She is also quite curious about nearly everything. When walking, she occasionally pulls on the leash and wants to take the lead but it is out of pure excitement. And when she walks I is with a bounce in her step and a smile on her face. Linda will melt anyone's heart.

AlbertaAlberta -- Adopted and living in North Hollywood
Racing Name:
Oxbow Alberta
Age: 4 1/2 Sex: F Color: Red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/W

Alberta is a pretty red dog with "doe" eyes. She came in with a severely dislocated toe on a front foot but she has been to the orthopedic vet, bandaged and is now on the mend. At first she wasn't too thrilled to have to live with 4 cats, but after a few weeks, she pays no attention to them and their shuffling about. She was a bit insecure when she came to her foster home but has warmed up nicely there but is still a bit wary around strangers. She likes to play with the squeaky toys and is not intimidated by the resident grey who thinks all the toys are his. She loves to give wake up nudges in the morning and gives a funny "roo" when the food dishes come out. She still has to be helped into the car but settles down when we are under way. She walks nicely on the leash. Her forever home should not have small kids because of her wariness, but older teens or adults are okay. Probably she would be okay as an only dog.

BenzBenz -- Adopted and living in Huntington Beach
Racing Name:
ZMS Benz
Age: 5 1/2 Sex: F Color: White with ticking
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N

Benz is a petite girl who is always on the alert. She isn't happy that there are several cats living in her foster home and doesn’t want to share her Forever Home with any cats or small fluffy dogs. One of Benz’ favorite things is to say good morning to you as you get out of bed in the morning and say good night at the end of the day when you are in bed. But her obsession is with water. The foster home can't keep her out of their "pool" even though it is 30 inches deep and hard to jump into. She loves to jump in, splash and play around like no other greyhound! The foster mom finally filled up a small wading pool so all the dogs could cool off and splash around with her. Benz settles down nicely in the car and is just a pleasure to walk on a leash. She would probably do okay as an only dog because she doesn’t interact with the other dogs in the foster home and is more interested in the people. She can be a little spooky at first until she gets to know the people around her. And the Forever Home must remember water is a must with her, even if it's only a kiddie wading pool.

GusGus -- Adopted and living in Rancho Cucamonga
Racing Name:
TNJ Gusto
Age: 2 1/2 Sex: M Color: White, red, and brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Gus is a very gentle guy who loves to explore and go to new places. He has learned to love going for rides in the car and will beg you to roll the window down so he can stick his head out. He is not one to wag his tail in excitement, but he shows his affection by playing with you outside, running around with his toys, or leaning up against you so you can pet him. He likes to meet new people and seems to get along well with younger kids. He gets curious around smaller animals that make noise but is quick to lose interest in them and shows little to no interest in other dogs. He is also quite submissive and would have no problem letting other animals be the alpha. He does get separation anxiety when left alone so his foster dad thinks he would be happier in a home where someone could be around him a lot or where he would have a dog friend to hang out and play with.

JadeJade -- Adopted and living in Highland
Racing Name:
Scantly Clad
Age: 8 1/2 Sex: F Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Jade is a lovely greyhound lady. She can be a bit hesitant meeting new people, but warms up quickly. In the foster home she is very affectionate with both her foster mom and dad. She has learned the rules of her foster home very quickly and has never had an accident in the house. She has done very well in public at Meet & Greets. She enjoys just hanging out with the greyhounds in her foster pack. She does get playful spurts, but in keeping with her poise and maturity, they don't last too long. She likes walks and romps in the yard. She loves to go on road trips and does very well in the car. Jade was originally placed by GreySave a while back and came back to us due to life disruptions in her adoptive home. She has made the adjustment to a new home remarkably well, and should adjust easily to life in the right forever home. Jade is what you want if you're looking for an affectionate, low energy, mature, and happy girl.

FritzFritz -- Adopted and living in Glendora
Racing Name:
Boc's Fritz
Age: 3 Sex: M Color: Red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Fritz's photo says an lot about his personality. He is very curious and interested in everything. That’s the exact way he cocks his head when he hears a squeaky toy, a dog on TV, or even the first time we turned on the vacuum. Nothing scares him--he has an extremely calm personality. He's a happy camper as long as he can be with a person. He follows from room to room whoever is home, and lays down quietly. Paradise for him would be to curl up next to you with his head in your lap. Fritz currently lives with two large rescue dogs and a cat. Although he is not aggressive with the cat, he loves to bark at him and invite him to play, which the cat does not appreciate! That is the only time we hear him bark. Fritz walks beautifully on a leash, and although we take our dogs daily to an enclosed field to run, he usually prefers to walk quietly beside us rather than run with the dogs. Although he enjoys their company, he could also work as the only dog in the house, as long as people were around and he was not left alone for long periods. Fritz is a good eater and can’t wait for meal time. He rides well in the car, looks about curiously for awhile and then lays down. He is extremely friendly, great with kids, and fits in almost immediately to a new situation.  He uses the dog door easily and did so from the first day. Fritz loves stuffed toys, but instead of playing a lot, he spends his day carrying them all into his bed to surround him. In the morning I carry them back, and that’s his work for the next day!  He is a great dog who will make his forever home a happy place!

CaelinCaelin -- Adopted and living in Granada Hills
Racing Name:
Just AZ Caelin
Age: 2 1/2 Sex: M Color: White and red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Caelin is one exuberant dog! Ever curious about all things. Maybe he didn't race very long because he couldn't concentrate on the business at hand. He is living with several cats and has decided he doesn't need to chase them to see where they are going. He went on a charity dog walk and met several small dogs. Once he met them nose to nose he wasn't all that interested in them. He learned the dog door right away and he is learning to walk nicely on a leash alongside a well behaved dog partner. He is a gatherer of clothes and shoes, but has never destroyed anything. He loves to play with toys and can hold his own when confronted by the "toy king" in the house. He wakes his foster mom each morning with stares and kisses, then goes outside to run laps before breakfast. Caelin is a very loving, cuddly dog and will climb into your lap if you let him. He could possibly be an only dog if the humans aren't gone for 7-9 hours daily.

LilyLily -- Adopted and living in Agoura Hills
Racing Name:
Kiowa Sweet Lips
Age: 7 Sex: F Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: N/Y

Lily is a very sweet and enthusiastic greyhound who loves to cuddle and will sometimes "talk" to get your attention. She loves long walks, long naps and hanging out with her people. She lives well with two other greyhounds and has lived with cats, but would make an excellent only dog. Lily is a quick learner, does well with children, and loves to play with squeaky toys. She is very affectionate and will melt your heart with her bouncy exuberance and happy, waggy tail!

JackJack -- Adopted and living in Sierra Madre
Racing Name:
CDC Jack
Age: 3 Sex: M Color: White and ticking with black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N

Jack is a perfectly proportioned boy, in a compact package, who has a tremendous zest for retirement life. He is a very sweet boy. He exhibits a healthy curiosity about his new environment and loves to explore. He takes direction easily and is a pleasure to walk. He enjoys going out with his two greyt housemates. He has mastered condo living, loves car rides, and is very outgoing. Jack could fit into a variety of households and is independent enough to be an only dog, if given a short period of support. He finds cats a bit too fascinating, so probably shouldn't live with them. If his forever home came with a yard, he would be ever so grateful.

RushRush -- Adopted and living in Beaumont
Racing Name:
Rush's Renegade
Age: 2 Sex: M Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Rush is a gentle giant and a playful puppy at heart. He measures 28.5” at his withers and is just a gorgeous looking boy. He enjoys playing fetch in the backyard with his greyhound sister. He can be found prancing around amongst our free-ranging ducks and chickens, whom he pays no attention to, as well as the two cats we have inside the house. He loves new people and is friendly with all dogs, cats and children. He has mastered, with the help of treats, his "go lie in your bed" command. But he still needs to learn that not everything in the house is a toy. He enjoys car rides, but with size, needs a bit of assistance on entering. He barks when excited over food, play, etc. and when he hears the canyon coyotes howl. He is very good on the leash and loves his neighborhood walks. Rush is a total sweetheart whose favorite part of the day is laying in his doggie bed beside his humans at bedtime. He sleeps through the night and has used the doggie door since his first day off the track. He would be a wonderful addition to any family with other animals or as a single pet companion.

ChuckChuck -- Adopted and living in Beaumont
Racing Name:
CDC Chuck
Age: 2 3/4 Sex: M Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Chuck is a handsome black boy who will be turning three in January. He is a little shy but is trying very hard to learn about his new world. He is very attentive and watches for cues and responds well to slow careful body language. He has bonded well with his foster Mom, and has the potential to be a greyt pal. He has started to play with stuffies and interacts well with the other dogs. He lives with 3 greys and 2 cats. He has a good appetite and now takes treats from my hand. He has learned the ear scritches are so soothing and that humans can be trusted.

WinnieWinnie -- Adopted and living in Chatsworth
Racing Name:
Flat out Winnie
Age: 5 Sex: F Color: Fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N

At five years old, Winnie is thrilled to be off the track and enjoying the beginning of her retirement years.  With her sweet face and loving disposition, Winnie definitely loves to be where the people are.  She is extremely affectionate and will take any chance to cuddle.  She has discovered the joy of playing with toys as well.  Winnie is currently living with three other greyhounds, and gets along very well with the pack.  Winnie's ideal home would be one where her family could spend a great deal of time with her, and where she would be an only dog or with greyhound buddies.  Mainly she just wants to be loved and cuddled as much as possible, and can't wait to find her forever home.

ReneRene -- Adopted and living in Chatsworth
Racing Name:
Renegade Man
Age: 4 Sex: M Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/W

Rene is a sweet boy who loves to be included in everything his foster parents do. He wants to be with us in the kitchen when we cook, and at our feet when we watch TV or are on the computer. He also has to inspect anything we bring into his home. Rene loves to go on nice long walks, and loves to play catch with his squeaky toys.  He is a smart dog who learns pretty fast, especially from someone with a gentle hand. Rene would be a perfect match for someone who works short hours at home, since he still is having a hard time being left alone. He is getting better at this but will probably at least need another dog to keep him company. He is a truly loving greyhound looking for his best friend.

MercuryMercury/Sophie -- Adopted and living in Northridge
Racing Name:
Boc's Mercury
Age: 5 Sex: F Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Mercury had a long racing career, and is adjusting wonderfully to home life. She currently lives quite successfully with two small Chihuahuas. She has had play dates with other large dogs and seems to get along well with them, too. She is the first to greet her foster mom when she gets home, with excited howls, and then shows off all her front teeth as she smiles with joy. But once she settles down she lets out a satisfied sigh and plops down on her favorite blanket. Although she ran over 150 races, she has never even run in the yard. She apparently has taken her retirement to heart. Overall, Mercury is a very mellow gal except when she is greeting a new person. She just LOVES people and when she greets them it is always with a toothy grin. Mercury spends most of her days taking naps in various soft places--oh yes, she is a greyhound! She is a good walker on a leash and keeps close to your side. She is very quick to learn and seems to just understand what you want her to do. She learned to use the doggie door the very first day she arrived at her foster home, and has never had an accident inside the house. Her foster mom says it is so exciting to see her personality blossom and with each day she becomes more comfortable in her environment. Though she can still be a bit skittish at times, she has definitely learned to trust people. Her gentle and loving personality makes Mercury the best pet ever!

SassySassy -- Adopted and living in Fountain Valley
Racing Name:
Red I Overtime
Age: 4 1/2 Sex: F Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Sassy has gotten over her initial post track shyness and is very, very sweet and loving. She is also very tolerant of the resident cats (even though they have not exactly made friends with her). There have been no scuffles at all and the cats have stopped hissing when she is around them. Two of Sassy’s favorite things to do are to nap and go for walks. She also likes meal time and dog treats. When she gets frisky she likes to throw her stuffed toys up in the air, pounce on them, and then when done wraps herself in a blanket. She is very excited when her foster mom gets home from work, and will wag her whole back end and then give out sweet kisses. Sassy lives in an apartment and has adjusted well to it, knowing when and where to potty and how to ask to be walked. She is looking for a loving home that can take care of her forever and she is even happy to share that home with cats that don’t hiss at her.

PaintPaint -- Adopted and living in Sylmar
Racing Name:
Red I War Paint
Age: 4 Sex: F Color: White and brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Paint is a sweet little girl that picks up things fast. She was coming in the doggy door the first day and going out on her own the next day. She is very curious and has to check everything out. She walks well on a leash, but her head is looking at everything going on around her. Paint is not sleep or food aggressive; she even sleeps right next to other greys in the house at times. She has just started to show interest in playing with the other greys in the house.  In the car she is a dream to have--she is down within a couple of minutes and stays there.

TrinidadTrinidad/Rocky -- Adopted and living in Los Angeles
Racing Name:
BC On the Rocks
Age: 6 Sex: M Color: Fawn brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N

Rocky is the ultimate companion. He is the go-everywhere, do-everything dog. Anything you want to do, he is thrilled to do it with you. But that doesn’t mean he is over-active or out of control; he is extremely low key inside the house--not clingy, or harassing you for anything. In other words, a perfect dog. He is good on the leash, good with all other dogs—large and small, good with children, good in the car and good when left alone in the house. He would be fine as a single dog and he is fine with the Chihuahua he lives with at the foster home and a Korean Jindo who is visiting for a week. He is living in an apartment with no back yard or doggie door, and is doing just great. Rocky is looking for a home where he will be loved, petted, able to nap occasionally in the sun and be a forever companion.

PumpkinPumpkin -- Adopted and living in Costa Mesa
Racing Name:
Rj's Pumpkin
Age: 3 3/4 Sex: F Color: Red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Pumpkin is a reserved little lady. She's as polite as can be and has impeccable house manors.  Pumpkin's name fits her well since her coat really is Pumpkin color. When it's time to go outside she will let you know. She can sleep through the night without having to go out. She has now mastered the dog door. Leash walks are a breeze. She loves rides in the car where she is the first dog down. Toys seem to find their way from the basket to her bed with great frequency somehow. Her repaired broken hock is not an issue; she doesn't even seem to notice the big blue splint. Due to her quiet demeanor she may prefer a slow-paced, quiet lifestyle. She enjoys the company of the three other greyhounds in her foster home, but she spends most of her time alone. Separation anxiety has never an issue from day one, so she may do well as an only dog. She's a bit timid with strangers at first, but she quickly warms up to everyone she meets. She never rejects the chance to be petted, scratched, and rubbed.  She would be a welcome addition to anyone’s family. A 100% dream of a hound.

RebaReba -- Adopted and living in Pasadena
Racing Name:
Koyote Reba
Age:
3 Sex: F Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant:
Y/Y

Reba is a funny and sweet little girl. She loves going on long walks and meeting people and other dogs...even if they aren't greyhounds. And she's learning to get along with cats. Her favorite activities are playing with squeaky toys, sunbathing, sleeping on one of her many beds, and hanging out with her new pack. Reba is curious and fun-loving and greets new experiences with enthusiasm. This is a dog who says 'Yes!' to life. She loves her new life off of the track.

SimonSimon -- Adopted and living in Seal Beach
Racing Name:
Bella Sandinista
Age: 2 Sex: M Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Handsome, dashing, suave, and debonaire, Simon is dressed for success and fun in his black tuxedo. This sweet, friendly guy is just waiting for the right family to sweep him off his feet and take him home. Simon is a confident, easy-going two-year-old who loves to cuddle and be your constant companion. He loves walks, smelling the flowers, and meeting the public at Meet & Greets. At a recent large adoption event, Simon couldn't be bothered with the noisy, little dogs in the booth next door. He simply wowed the crowd with his calm demeanor and gorgeous brown eyes. Simon is currently living with three other greyhounds and an ornery old cat who thinks that she is part greyhound too.

TreanaTreana -- Adopted and living in Cardiff
Racing Name:
Tasty AZ Treana
Age: 2 1/2 Sex: F Color: White and brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/W

Treana is a fun girl. She is very curious about everything and she loves people. Treana loves to "steal" her toys and run outside to play with them. She does occasionally see something on the coffee table as a potential toy. Treana is full of smiles and full of love. She knows how to walk on hard flooring. She lives with two greyhounds and two grumpy cats. Treana showed interest in the cats at first. Once she learned that they are part of the family, she yielded to them.

GoldieGoldie -- Adopted and living in Westchester
Racing Name:
CDC Goldie
Age: 2 1/2 Sex: F Color: White and fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/W

Goldie is a sweet, smart, petite little girl who loves the outdoors and going on walks either alone or with another Greyhound. She gets along great with non-Greyhounds too, and is neither intimidating nor shy, but holds her own like the confident little girl she is. She is just learning to play with toys and enjoys the squeaky ones most. She needs more practice at interacting during play and would love for her owner to teach her to play ball. At bedtime, she'll give you a goodnight lick on your face in exchange for some neck scratching. Goldie would do well either as the only dog in the house or living with multiple dogs.

BabsBabs -- Adopted and living in Pasadena
Racing Name:
KMA Yah Baby
Age: 3 1/2 Sex: F Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N

Babs is a calm and collected girl. She gets along well with all other dogs and likes to only give a casual sniff to newcomers on her walks. She epitomizes the term "easy" in that she hardly has a behavior that needs attention. She cleaned off the kitchen counter a couple of times before we realized that while she might be easy, she's not perfect. She is always ready to go for a ride in the car or a walk but seems equally happy just lying around. She is not very interested in toys or games, perhaps because she is a bit submissive and is always a little tentative and concerned about what's going to happen next. She would do well with people who recognize and enjoy her sweet, sensitive demeanor.

LukeLuke -- Adopted and living in Chino Hills
Racing Name:
Primed AZ Bouchy
Age: 2 Sex: M Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N

Luke is a very sweet boy who likes to stay close to his people. He is very affectionate and loves to snuggle. He loves his toys and will carry them around the house or outside and then pile them up around him on a dog bed. He likes to toss the toys in the air so that he can catch them. He loves tossing and catching his toys and then taking off at a run. He enjoys chasing balls. Luke is great with most other dogs, large and smallish (he has lived with other hounds and a miniature pinscher) but cats and tiny, fluffy dogs are a problem for him. In the house his favorite thing is to be near his foster mom and dad and give the stuffies a good going over.

MariaMaria -- Adopted and living in Rancho Cucamonga
Racing Name:
Koyote Maria
Age: 4 Sex: F Color: Red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/W

When we call her, “Maria-Maria-Maria,” it reminds us of the song from “West Side Story,” since she is such a sweet, affectionate, and gentle young lady. The other members of her foster pack include two greys and the old man cattle dog. They all all get along well with this non-dominating little girl. However, she does seem to favor humans over the other dogs. Because of this she may do well as an only dog. The transition from race track to life as a pet happened almost overnight. She's a fast learner, too: she mastered the dog door in less than a day and has never had an accident in the house. She's taken tile floors, mirrors, windows, and stairs all in stride. Playing ball is a favorite activity of hers as well as long walks and rides in the car. She's the first one to lie down in the car. She's just now discovering that toys are a fun thing. She's one of the easiest fosters we have had. We will truly miss her. She should fit in well in most any pack.

SueSue -- Adopted and living in Pasadena
Racing Name:
Rycia Sue
Age: 2 1/2 Sex: F Color: White with black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Sue is a very silly little girl who loves her human companions enough not to want to leave their side! She loves to cuddle and roll on her back for belly-rubs. She is a beautiful dog with a racing stripe face and little, black Dalmatian spots all over her gorgeous white coat. She barks rarely, and only when strangers approach the property gates. She seeks affection regularly and comes quickly when she is called. Although she can sit, she needs practice with the command to sit.  Sue enthusiastically awaits her meals and daily walks, and often mimics the polite behavior or her hound sister Emi. She is not possessive over toys or sleeping space, and rarely over her food. Sue has already learned how to use the stairs and doggy door. She would prefer regular access to a yard, and the company of other dogs. Early on she earned herself the nickname "Sourdough Sue-ey" after eating a bowl of rising bread dough off the kitchen counter!  Sue lives with cats, rabbits and ducks to whom she pays little or no attention. She has not had any crate experience. She hops easily into the car and is a very calm passenger. She loves meeting new people, but has not been out in crowds or near small children yet. Sue has adapted with ease to her current diet: a mix of organic raw foods and high quality kibble. She is a spunky little hound who is sure to provide her forever family with many laughs and cuddles!

BooyahBooyah -- Adopted and living in Rancho Cucamonga
Racing Name:
MLF Booyah
Age: 3 Sex: F Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N

Booyah is very willing to please everyone who will pet her. She gets along well with all creatures, except cats and the neighborhood tree rodents. She adjusted quickly to her foster home, learning the house rules and how to be a good companion. She lives happily with greyhounds, a rat terrier, and a "chew wennie." She isn’t at all concerned when the grandbaby comes to visit and makes strange noises. Booyhah likes to ride in the car, hang out with the other dogs, and get her mandatory 18 hours of post retirement greyhound rest. Now what she is looking for is a forever home that will adopt her and give her a proper girlie greyhound name.

WizardWizard -- Adopted and living in La Palma
Racing Name:
Super AZ Whiz
Age: 3 Sex: M Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Wizard is a very mellow, loving daddy's boy, who will lean against you for as long as he can. He followed his greyhound sisters through the doggy door on the first day, and was going out on his own the second day.  Wizard is not food or bed possessive, but he is nosy. He will check out the counter, but he is more interested in playing with things that are left down and out of place. He is not interested in other breeds of dogs we have come across, even the fluffy white Westie that visits the foster home at times. He enjoys outdoors and likes to lay in the sun. Wizard will bark when we are upstairs and he is down, but he can't do stairs at this point because of his cast. He is fine when we are downstairs. He is fine sleeping downstairs at night until he hears us in the morning. He could possibly be an only dog.

TeriTeri -- Adopted and living in Sierra Madre
Racing Name:
CDC Terrio
Age: 2 3/4 Sex: F Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N

Teri is a real charmer! In spite of coming off the track with a broken hock, having surgery and a temporary plate in her leg, she has mastered sleeping with all four feet in the air. They may be up against a wall or just suspended straight up. She seems not to know that she has a broken leg and a large and heavy splint. Teri can be a bit active, like most two year olds. She found the four cats in her first foster home a bit too exciting and worthy of a good chase! She changes foster homes and is now living with fivegreyhounds and no cats. She does well with all the greys and is learning how to be a good, restful greyhound from the older dogs in the pack. Teri has just begun to go out for short walks and she has yet to miss a scent or sight in the neighborhood. She is very personable, cuddly, and will roll over for a tummy rub in an instant if there is someone around that looks like they might indulge her. Teri came to GreySave in November and probably won’t be ready for adoption until sometime in March, but when she is ready for adoption she will make someone a most wonderful companion.

RikkiRikki -- Adopted and living in Glendale
Racing Name:
Koyote Rikki
Age: 3 Sex: F Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

When Rikki’s foster parents first met her, they were taken aback by a sweet, outgoing disposition that blended in immediately with the two resident greyhounds. The three cats weren't so sure at first because Rikki went around bestowing kisses on everybody. She has behaved with great manners and has never had an accident in the house. Maneuvering the few stairs were a trial at first, but with gentle persuasion and assurance she quickly mastered them. Playing with toys and sharing them is a favorite past-time. She can often be found doing what greyhounds do best: decorating the floor cushions in graceful postures. You just can't beat having a greyhound companion, but you'll have to meet the other ones waiting for you, as Rikki has found her permanent place with her foster family.

NiagaraNiagara/Emi -- Adopted and living in Tujunga
Racing Name:
CDC Amy
Age: 3 3/4 Sex: F Color: Dark brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N

Emi is the kind of dog you introduce to your friends and pronounce her as the "best dog you'll ever meet," and within minutes everyone is in enthusiastic agreement. She lives with dogs, cats, rabbits, ducks and chickens. She has been awarded her Canine Good Behavior Certificate, and jumps at the chance to show off her sit, lay and stay commands. She enjoys long naps on her back, with legs stretched out in every direction. Emi hops around like a ballerina when her leash is in sight, and her ears perk up when she hears the words "hungry" and "walk." She heels gracefully to the left and goes unnoticed during walks. She enjoys meeting new people and new dogs.

HopeHope -- Adopted and living in San Diego
Racing Name:
Greyt Centipede
Age: 4 Sex: F Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N

Hope is a sweet, affectionate little girl. She is inquisitive and interested in everything. She loves to play with squeaky toys and flings them up in the air as she plays. She gets along well with her greyhound foster sisters and a bossy Lab. The main thing that makes Hope special is her capacity for loving her people. She stays close to her foster mom; touching her if at all possible, lying next to or on top of her whenever she can. She is quite the cuddle-bug and loves to be petted and hugged and kissed. Even though she craves human contact, she does not seem to have any separation issues when left alone. For the family looking for a very loving, "velcro" companion and who will give her lots of love in return, Hope is a perfect choice.

TinaTina -- Adopted and living in Lancaster

Tina is a gorgeous, petite girl with a coat that feels like velvet to the touch. She is being fostered in a two-level condo and was able to master the stairs in about a day. Tina enjoys her walks in the neighborhood and is a perfect lady on the leash. We have encountered big dogs, small dogs, rabbits and ducks. Nothing seems to faze her, though she is shy and less comfortable around people. We are working on that. Tina settles down quickly and travels well in the car. She gets excited at meal times and LOVES her food. She has never had an accident in the house.  Recently she attended her first Meet & Greet and really came to life when she greeted the other greys. For this reason we think she might enjoy living with another dog.

SadieSadie -- Adopted and living in Sierra Madre
Racing Name:
Pj's Pop the Lid
Age: 4 Sex: F Color: Fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Everything ever said about how great greyhounds are can be said about this gorgeous, sweet charmer. Sadie goes through her day with curiosity and never shows fear of new things, whether a vacuum cleaner in the house or a garbage truck rumbling down the street as we walk. Walking with her is a delight, as she moves along in a relaxed and confident manner. Meeting new people and other dogs is a happy moment for her. Sadie currently lives with two greyhounds and three cats and has never caused a tense moment--she readily shares space, toys, and feeding time. She lets us know when she needs to relieve herself, but the manner of it may not make her suitable for apartment living, since she likes to vocalize her needs. It will be hard on her foster parents to let her go to her forever home, since it is a "love-fest" both ways. This is one stunning companion waiting for you to love her and be loved in return.

CarbonCarbon -- Adopted and living in Newbury Park
Racing Name:
RMJ Carbon Copy
Age: 4 Sex: M Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Carbon is a very gentle boy, very calm and undemanding. He enjoys daily walks and travels well. Carbon likes to hang out with his foster family. He fits into our daily routine so well that it seems like he has always been a member of the family. Carbon taught himself how to use the doggie door to access the secured back yard. He amused himself with frequent in and out trips during that first day. Carbon lives with three house cats, a Whippet mix, a resident grey and a second foster female grey. Carbon loves to meet and greet other people. He is very sociable and is friends with everyone. He has not shown any interest in the small dogs that pass him on his walks. We are really enjoying our new friend, his warm hugs and smiles and his happy tail wags. He could be the "perfect" greyhound for his forever family.

MissouriMissouri -- Adopted and living in Lake Elsinore
Racing Name:
Missouri Mauler
Age: 2 1/2 Sex: M Color: White with ticking
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/W

GreySave’s phone rings and it’s a call from the race track in Tucson. The “Missouri Mauler” has broken his leg doing what these dogs love doing best – running. So off go his new foster parents on a mad dash through the desert to pick him up. A drop off at the orthopedic vet for surgery the next day follows. The fun begins when he goes home and begins the magic transformation into a loving pet. This hound gives any human he meets 110% love. Just be careful of his over-active, spring-loaded happy tail. Lots of weekly trips to the Vet means he is the first to lie down in the car. It was no time at all before he had mastered tile floors, mirrors, and the dog door. One of the other greyhounds in the home has taught him the finer points of letting all of us know when someone comes to visit. In fact, for a small male he has a very big and deep bark. He has now moved on to toys.  Emptying the basket one by one, he deposits them around the house, squeaking them as he goes.

After the leg has healed we will be able to let him play. He has wanted to play bow and run with the other hounds from day one.  He gets along well with the others but may not be cat safe. He does well when left alone with the other hounds but not well when left alone, at least for now.  Because of this he needs a forever home with a four-legged best buddy. Everyone who meets him falls in love, and the folks at the vet hospital look forward to his weekly visits. There he is affectionately known as “The Mauler.”

WonderWonder -- Adopted and living in Long Beach
Racing Name:
Perfect Wonder
Age: 4 Sex: F Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Wonder is a petite red brindle complimented by a black muzzle and white tipped paws. She has easily adapted to a life of leisure and the daily routines of her foster household. Initially shy around humans, she eventually warmed up to belly rubs and bear hugs. She prefers not to be an only dog. She has imitated the habits of the resident greyhound in her foster home. She is looking forward to the removal of her cast so she can join him in exploring the neighborhood and take in all the intriguing smells and sightseeing. Her favorite pasttimes are looking at herself in the mirror and shopping for toys to deposit on her bed. She gets excited at the mention of a car ride, but is a quiet and contented passenger. She loves her humans and is always over-joyed at their return. She uses the doggie door after every meal and as needed without prompting.

WendyWendy -- Adopted and living in Bakersfield
Racing Name:
WW Watchout Girl
Age: 4 Sex: F Color: White with brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Wendy is a little girl who is the sweetest thing you’ll ever meet. She is calm and loving, yet playful and funny. She loves to throw her toys sky high and across the room. She is patient and affectionate with her foster sisters, and that’s saying something since one is a crabby Basenji and the other is a little Chihuahua! She is completely housebroken and has never had even one accident. She is very proud of that. I’m pretty sure she would use our small doggy door if she could fit through it. She is very loyal and happy to just be with you, but we strongly feel she would be most happy in a home with four-legged companionship. She does not counter surf, and is good on a leash. She doesn’t pull, but she still zig-zags a bit. She is smatr--a very quick learner and really wants just to please you. If not for the crabby Basenji, we would keep her ourselves. She is a dream.

JulliardJulliard/Birdie -- Adopted and living in Tarzana
Racing Name:
Par First Base
Age: 5 Sex: F Color: Red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/TBD

Julliard, also known as Birdie, is an amazingly cute and cuddly little grey girl that loves tummy rubs and hanging out with her people and the other greys.  When she wants to be petted or have her coat taken off she will roll onto her side and does a little bicycle riding motion with her back legs. Julliard acts a bit shy when she meets people, tucks her head and then nuzzles against your legs which is quite endearing but Birdie is not shy at all.  She is just a very friendly grey who knows how to charm the humans.  She is a big collector of toys and is always trying to get her foster grey friends to play.  Julliard came from a home with several daughters and a playful dog so would probably prefer to have a young human companion and another dog to play with in her new home.

JillJill -- Adopted and living in Redondo Beach
Racing Name:
Concho Thunder
Age: 5 Sex: F Color: White and red fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y

Jill is a spunky and affectionate little girl who just wants to have fun. She loves life and lives it to its fullest by playing with squeaky toys, slippers, the small dog in the foster home, chews and anything else she can find for her entertainment. She likes to be close to her people and could easily become a lap dog since she’s only 55 lbs. She loves going for walks and is very well behaved on a leash. She seems very smart and is easy to train, since she is both food motivated and focused on her people. She would fit in a variety of homes and has been an easy foster dog. She might do okay as an only dog if her people weren’t gone 10 hours a day, since she is outgoing and confident.

ParkerParker -- Adopted and living in
Racing Name:
Par Belikedad
Age: 3 Sex: M Color: White
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N

Parker is a large male who is smart and calm. He has quickly adapted to suburban family life. He affectionately follows his foster parents around the house and is learning that he doesn’t have to move quite every time that they do. Parker uses a doggie door and behaves very well on the walks that he loves to take. He is able to be alone all day but greets his foster parents with much enthusiasm when they return. He has done well with two smaller dogs that have visited him a few times and he seems to be calm around a young child who is well acquainted with dogs. Perhaps Parker's only issue is that he will put his front paws up on bathroom counters to see the "other dog" in the mirror, rearranging things a bit and even turning on the water! Parker will make a great addition to any family that can return the love he gives.
