Sinbad -- Adopted and living in West LA
Racing Name: Slightly Sinful
Age: 3 1/2 Sex: M Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Sinbad loves this retirement thing and he is determined to take advantage of everything he can. During his walks he spends the first two blocks excitedly checking out the scents, then he walks nicely next to us for the reminder of the walk. He loves to explore both inside and out, but is easily corrected with a firm “No” when into something he shouldn’t be. Toys are one of his favorite things. He will run around the yard with one in his mouth shaking or tossing it or just grab one, take it to his bed, and play with it until he decides he needs another. He really enjoys them if they squeak or make some kind of noise. He loves for you to toss them to him, but he doesn’t have the “bring it back to me” thing yet. But as smart as he is we am sure he will get it. He learned the dog door in two days and will let you know if he needs to go out when it is closed for the night. He rides great in the car. He spends about ten minutes sniffing the air out the window, then lays down for the remainder of the trip.
Boris -- Adopted and living in La Habra
Racing Name: Kiowa Baci Bio
Age: 3 1/2 Sex: M Color: Dark fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Boris is a real sweetheart. He is currently living with a Dobie and a Boxer/Great Dane mix, and he gets along well with both. Even though the Dobie has barked neurotically at him several times when she thought he got too close, he has shown no aggression and just moves away. He has also shown no aggressive tendencies with food or during sleep; in fact, he prefers that we hold his dish while he eats so it doesn't move around. He loves to snuggle, and has learned quickly not to get on the furniture and to stay back when the front door is opened. Just showing him the spray bottle is effective. He is a good eater, but not too interested in dog cookies. He does however LOVE cheese, to the point that he arrives at the fridge as soon as the door is opened. He rides well in the car, walks beautifully on a leash, and is very friendly to people and dogs he meets in the house or on the outside. He will be a great family dog--he loves to be around people and shows no impatience with children. If things get too rowdy, he just disappears into the bedroom. Boris uses the dog door, but is not crazy about it. He will brave it to get back in to be with us, but is not as eager to go out. We're working on that with the aid of cheese rewards. He's a bit of a klutz--he seems to get his long legs tangled a bit coming through the dog door. Like many greys, Boris really likes company. He may have an adjustment period if left alone and would do better in a house where there is people or dog company most of the time.
Walter -- Adopted and living in Long Beach
Racing Name: Wild Walter
Age: 8 Sex: M Color: White and brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Walter is a party animal. He seems to have an endless supply of energy. When he plays and runs around the yard he gives it his all. Then it's nap time and he loves to snuggle up with other dogs or humans. He will make a great lap/couch dog even though he's a big boy. He loves walks of course and can be overly enthusiastic until he gets his leash on, but he's gotten better after working with him. Walter loves toys. He'll play with anything and will start collections. He's a great eater, even though he looks like he's on the skinny side. Walter can be a bit of a scaredy-cat when there are loud noises and is sensitive to discipline, but calms down fast. Walter is a fun dog and will be missed by his foster family.
Sybilla -- Adopted and living in Long Beach
Racing Name: JNR Lady
Age: 7 1/2 Sex: F Color: White and fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Sybilla is a big girl and is very mild mannered. She doesn't get scared easily and she doesn't get too excited. She loves her buddy Walter and wants to be next to him, whether walking or sleeping. She's great on a leash, but seems to be a bit out of shape for long walks. She loves the sun and will play with stuffies. She's also a big love bug. If she wants pets and you are not paying attention to her, she'll push her nose under your arm or hand. She is in great shape, has a good coat which is hard to keep your hands off. If kept with her soul mate Walter she will be the perfect dog.
Glenda -- Adopted and living in Seal Beach
Racing Name: Bella Grand Tyme
Age: 2 1/2 Sex: F Color: Red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Glenda is a lovely red greyhound with a sweet and loving personality. She loves being retired and has quickly settled into life as a couch potato. She is housebroken and has learned about stairs, mirrors, and she uses the dog door. She is content following her family around and receiving lots of love and attention. She loves to play with stuffed toys and enjoys playing in the grass and chasing lizards. Glenda would make a wonderful companion but would do better in a home where someone is around or with another dog.
Stella -- Adopted and living in Canyon Country
Racing Name: Bella Stroll
Age: 4 Sex: F Color: White and black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N
Stella is sweet and gentle. She loves the other dogs and runs and plays in the yard. She hasn't figured out toys yet but starting to show interest. This girl is a jumper, very agile and quick, and would likely excel at learning a canine agility course. Stella thinks baby gates are just a small hurdle to be conquered. She is very smart and is housebroken using a dog door.
Rodger -- Adopted and living in Glendale
Racing Name: Rodger Clemens
Age: 3 Sex: M Color: Red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Rodger is a gentle and handsome boy who loves to hang out with his humans. He is always willing to lend a cold nose and a happy tail to whatever project we are working on. Rodger lives very well with three house cats, a whippet, and our resident greyhound. Bare floors have been a real challenge for him but he continues to work hard at navigating the fearsome floors. Rodger enjoys taking his daily walks, romping with other doggie friends and going for car rides. He is just beginning to discover toys and he has mastered the awesome greyhound hug.
Pacman -- Adopted and living in Rancho Mirage
Racing Name: Greyt Pacman
Age: 3 Sex: M Color: White and brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: W/N
Pacman is a very curious fellow as well a big laid-back goofball, who reminds us of “Marmaduke” in the newspaper funnies. He loves to help the humans with any project they may have around the house, using his big black nose to supervise their work. Is very outgoing with people of all ages and very good with children. Attention is what he loves, and if invited we are sure he would be more than happy to curl up with you on the sofa while you watched TV. He has good house manners and loves his dog door. Long walks, rides in the car, being brushed, and a quick romp in the back yard are the things he likes best. He loves to play fetch if someone will throw him a ball. Loud noises around the home and street traffic on walks are of no concern to him. Mom can even run the vacuum next to him and he will not move. Small yappy dogs and cats are not safe around him, but he gets along very well with all other 4 legged creatures. The only time he barks is to meet mom and dad when we come home from work, greeting us at the front door. A home with another dog is a must for this wonderful big boy. PacMan’s prior track injury has in no way slowed down his approach to life. We are going to miss our big goofball when he finds his forever home.
Murray -- Adopted and living in Valencia
Racing Name: DJ's Burrito Man
Age: 10 1/2 Sex: M Color: White and red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N
Murray is a large and cuddly teddy bear of a greyhound who lost his way home on Valentine’s Day. He came to GreySave after being found in Altadena. He appeared to be in good health but did not have a collar, tags or microchip. He is in a foster home with several greyhounds and a beagle but he needs his own Forever Home. Murray is very easy going, loves to sleep on soft dog beds and stays off the furniture. He goes on long walks, hangs out in the yard if it is sunny, and most of all he loves being petted. He is looking for a home either as an only dog with adopters who are around during the day, or living with other restful dogs. Despite his gentle nature he does not like cats, so can’t go to a home with them. Small dogs don’t seem to be an issue whether on leash or not. Murray has learned to use the dog door and usually remembers where it is after he gets outside. If he gets lost or confused he will give out a furtive bark or two and wait for the human to come look for him. Murray is one of our super seniors and as such he is looking for a special home that will cherish him and never let him get lost for the rest of his life.
Stanley -- Adopted and living in Bakersfield
Racing Name: Bella Steadfast
Age: 1 1/2 Sex: M Color: Fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Stanley is a young, gentle boy who has learned to give great hugs. He greets us with a big greyhound smile and a happy tail. He loves to stay close to his people and he prefers to stay inside the house where he can enjoy his royal comforts. Stanley is willing to take short walks but he has no interest in jogging with his human partner. He travels well and he enjoys shopping at his favorite pet store. Stanley lives very well with three cats, a cranky whippet, and a female greyhound. He also enjoys his food and he is always checking out the counter tops. Stanley would do well either as an only dog or in a multiple pet household. His gentleness makes him a good companion to younger children.
Patrice -- Adopted and living in Chino
Racing Name: Rock on Patty
Age: 3 Sex: F Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Patrice is a very petite little girl but so happy and friendly! Whenever anyone comes to visit she is right there in front wagging her tail with excitement. She also barks along with the other dogs when they hear something outside. She greets us every morning with a soft roo--she just can’t wait for breakfast! Patrice is living with three greyhounds, an old Lab, and Kato the cat. She has met Kato and is very curious yet cautious around him. If she were to spend time around a cat that isn’t hiding most of the time we think she would be fine but should be monitored at first. Patrice has no problem with stairs, tile or hopping into the van. She loves to go on walks and is great on a leash. Traffic noises or other sounds don’t bother her at all. She is not a dominant girl and we think she would do best in a home with another dog that has a stronger presence, since she likes to follow. Whoever her forever family is, we know she will make them very happy. She will be a fine companion for some lucky person or family and deserves her forever home.
Krissy -- Adopted and living in Altadena
Racing Name: JL Ask Krisulee
Age: 5 Sex: F Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Krissy is a beautiful dark brindle female who is celebrating her fifth birthday this month. After many races, she is happy to enjoy her retirement. Krissy was somewhat shy and withdrawn at first, but has now come out of her shell to show her sweet personality. Her confidence continues to grow each day. Her new favorite activity is to play with toys and collect them onto her dog bed. Krissy is currently living with three other greyhounds and a small Italian Greyhound. She gets along beautifully with the pack and is fine with sharing toys and beds. Krissy would do best either as an only dog in a home where her family could spend a good deal of time with her, or in a home with some other canine pals. Krissy is excited to find her forever home where she can spend her relaxing retirement.
Meteor -- Adopted and living in La Canada
Racing Name: AC Galaxy Meteor
Age: 2 1/2 Sex: M Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Meteor is a classy looking dog--all dressed up in his tuxedo and spats, with no place to go except his forever home. He is a very friendly and loving dog. He is not interested in playing with toys or other dogs, but adores human contct. So he may do fine as an only dog. Hopefully his new family will like to wake up to morning kisses. He is learning to ride in the car. He needs a little work on walking on a leash, because of surgery on his foot. He lives with cats and doesn't care about them. He met a lot of little dogs on a charity dog walk and just wanted to meet them. He is such a sweet boy, that his foster mom says if she had room Meteor wouldn't be going anywhere.
Angel -- Adopted and living in Highland
Racing Name: AK Seraph
Age: 5 Sex: F Color: White and brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Angel is the perfect name for this angel of a dog. He's a sweet boy that is just finding himself as a pet, who loves to eat, loves to walk, and very nicely. Although he loves attention, he is often just as happy sleeping on his dog bed. He has a longer coat than some greyhounds and loves being in the sun or on the shady screened porch. When he comes in the house he gives little cries of joy and rubs up against his foster mom. Then five minutes later he may be asking to go out again! Since Angel is just starting to be curious about toys, he and his foster mom walked to PetSmart to get him his own special toy. He saw what looked like a flattened squirrel with a very bushy tail--it was love at first sight. Angel carried the squirrel to the check-out stand, then carried it all the way home. Angel is adapting very nicely to becoming a pet. He is past the "terrible twos" and so far seems to be getting through the teen years without any trouble. Now he is ready to settle into someone’s home and look at them with loving eyes. And all he asks in return is some food, a walk and some snuggies. Who could resist that?
Rehanna -- Adopted and living in West Hollywood
Racing Name: Loved AZ Rehanna
Age: 4 1/2 Sex: F Color: Light Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Rehanna is a gentle, kind and loving greyhound. She came to us very timid, but she soon fit right in and loves her new life. She sleeps like nobody's business but when she decides to play, watch out! We call it the hurricane effect: she loves to toss her toys in the air and then chase after them. It's a lot of fun to watch. Her favorite thing to do is be petted. She could stand there and let you pet her for hours and hours. She's a very special dog and we're lucky to have her.
Ella -- Adopted and living in Stanton
Racing Name: Elladan
Age: 5 3/4 Sex: F Color: White and fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N
Ella is settling into retirement nicely. She is very shy at first but warms up when she is around other confident greyhounds. She will take treats from your hand but doesn’t like humans to come at her too quickly. She will thrive in a home with a gentle, understanding family and hounds that like to snuggle. She enjoys having her neck scratched and will come to us for petting sessions with her foster siblings and stay long after they have gone to lay down. She is a cautious gal, but she will reward a patient and loving human with a wagging tail and play bow. She is a fabulous walker. In fact walking is one of her favorite things. She will wag her tail with enthusiasm whenever we go near the leash hooks. She takes correction well but at the same time she is a sensitive girl. She has also found her voice. She will give a few short barks when someone knocks or rings the doorbell but stops as soon as we tell her it’s okay. Ella is anxious to find her forever home and looking forward to the love she will get there.
Jocko -- Adopted and living in Los Angeles-Mt. Washington area
Racing Name: Koyote Jocko
Age: 3 1/2 Sex: M Color: Dark brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Handsome, sweet, funny, playful. This is Jocko. He can be somewhat shy when new people approach, but bounces back right away. He is just starting to take walks and is excellent on the leash. Now that his cast and bandages are off, he is finding it easier to use the dog door. He lives with four cats in the house and pays no attention to them even when they are chasing each other. He is starting to play with toys now but can't find any with squeakers because his roomie has removed them all. He has been to a Meet & Greet and met several small dogs which didn't seem to bother him. He settles down nicely in the car because of all the rides to and from the vet. He may be okay as an only dog.
Irish -- Adopted and living in South Pasadena
Racing Name: Irish Redd
Age: 2 3/4 Sex: F Color: Red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Irish is a sweet and lively fawn girl who is thoroughly enjoying her retirement. At almost three years old, Irish is full of energy and curiosity. She has a spunky personality and likes to flash a toothy grin when approaching you for affection. Irish loves to balance her time between playing with squeaky toys, napping comfortably, and getting lots of hugs from her foster family. Currently, Irish is living with three other greyhounds and an Italian Greyhound. Irish would do best as an only dog in a home where her family could spend a good deal of time with her, or in a home with other dogs who don't mind letting her be the leader of the pack. This fun-loving girl is excited to find her forever home.
Callie -- Adopted and living in Phoenix
Racing Name: Just AZ Swanky
Age: 2 Sex: F Color: Red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N
Callie is a very petite but busy greyhound. Within one day of arriving at her foster home, she had moved from their kennels into the family home. Within 48 hours the family was hooked! Callie may be small but she is not short on personality. She has lots of cute and lovable tricks and can be quite charming even when she is sleeping. She took over not only the dog beds but on the couches and the family's beds, too! She now lives with a couple of greyhounds, a couple of non-greys, and three children and loves every second of her day and night. She goes to work every day with her adopted mom to make sure they are running their boarding kennel right and to make sure no other dogs decide that they need to move into her new home.
Lori -- Adopted and living in Huntington Beach
Racing Name: HK Lori
Age: 3 Sex: F Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Lori is a very fast learner and very willing and eager to please, especially once she figures out what is wanted of her. If she is not sure what to do, she will look to our greyhound for leadership and do what he does. She gets along very well with our greyhound; the two of them romp around happily in the back yard. She learned how to walk on a the leash after three walks and learned the potty routine quickly, but sometimes has to be led outside for potty time. After a couple of days, she hasn't given a second thought to our cat or bunny. Like many greys she jumps up to investigate unknown sounds coming from other parts of the house. She is happy to have a bed to sleep on and another dog as a buddy. Her newest trick is to ask for more neck scratches. We really love Lori and know that her forever owners will be lucky to have this sweet girl!
Nina -- Adopted and living in El Segundo
Racing Name: Dutch El Nino
Age: 5 Sex: F Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N
Nina is a shy and sensitive girl who loves to go for walks and take trips in the car. She is both patient and loving with her foster parents and her two poodle buddies. She wins a gold star for never having had an accident in the house and is adapting well to home living. She was a competitive racer on the track, but at home she is a real lady who shows not an ounce of possessiveness. She is always willing to share. Nina is learning the joy of having toys and loves to carry one wherever she goes. She likes having others near and will do well in a family with other canine siblings and humans who are not gone for long periods at a time.
Hawkeye -- Adopted and living in Orange
Racing Name: TNJ Hawkeye
Age: 3 Sex: M Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N
Hawkeye is friendly to people and animals. He shows affection readily to his people, and responds extremely well to their instructions. He is somewhat needy; he's what we call a "velcro dog"-- he likes to be near his people at all times. Hawkeye is a quick learner. He is quickly learning house rules, and has figured out the dog door. He gets along well with all other dogs, but would prefer not to live with cats.
Jacob -- Adopted and living in Hermosa Beach
Racing Name: Twilight N Jacob
Age: 2 1/2 Sex: M Color: Red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/W
Jacob is a large, handsome, "baby" boy who has won our hearts. He enjoys romping (with his squeaky toys), spinning, and running circles in the backyard. He appreciates his walks (he's a prancer), is great on leash and is very social with adults, children, and other dogs of all sizes. He isn't fazed by cats or other small critters. Jacob does get "spooked" by certain noises (skateboards and motorcycles) and at times by quick movements, but is easily calmed. He is a wonderful co-pilot in the car. He gets along great with our greyhound, but doesn't mind doing his own thing. He is house trained but enjoys being able to go in and out during the day while his foster parents are at work. He loves to take a nap in the grass and may even be found "cockroaching." Jacob makes you feel like a celebrity when he gives you the royal greeting at the door--but watch out for that helicopter tail! He loves food and is not opposed to counter surfing or at the dinner table, but a firm no usually gets him to back off. Jacob is a lover and enjoys nuzzling his head in your lap. Jacob is waiting to make you a happy as he makes us every day.
Tristan -- Adopted and living in Whittier
Racing Name: Dustin Tristan
Age: 2 1/2 Sex: M Color: Red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Tristan is a darling young grey with lots of love and snuggles to share. He has a distinctive voice when excited, sort of a chortle, funny to hear. Neck rubs are his absolute favorite, and you must scritch all the way around for him to be totally content. He likes to play with toys and enjoys interacting with the other greys. He is outgoing and friendly, would make a good Meet & Greet dog. The plate in his leg is scheduled to be removed in March and he is patiently waiting for his new family to take him home.
Leon -- Adopted and living in Fountain Valley
Racing Name: RWC Leon
Age: 5 Sex: M Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N
Leon is a wonderful, gentle boy who seems to be part teddy bear. He has thick, soft fur that you can run your fingers through. His sweet nature and calm attitude make him a very easy greyhound to live with. It took him only a few days to master the potty routine. He gets along wonderfully with my three hounds and small terrier. He is happy to wait his turn when I pass out the food bowls and shows zero sign of food, toy or sleep aggression. He was here almost two weeks before he decided that toys were fun to play with and collect. He has also discovered that fish watching, at our 60 gallon aquarium, is an entertaining way to pass the time. The only problem with this is that I have to clean the glass more often, but watching him watch the fish is well worth a little extra cleaning. He also enjoys looking out the window while riding in the car. The only thing "negative" about about the situation is how much we will miss him when he goes to his forever home.
Patty -- Adopted and living in Whittier
Racing Name: Kiowa Prime Time
Age: 5 Sex: F Color: Black and white
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N
Patty is such a sweet girl. All she wants is to "hang out" with us, whether that means sleeping beside us while we watch TV or walking with us around our neighborhood. Sometimes, when her playful streak comes out, she will have a romp with her squeaky stuffed alligator toy. She eats well and is house trained. She enjoys her forays around the yard, but is always happy to come when we call her back in. Patty is that rare combination of "patrician" beauty and affable nature, the embodiment of a greyt companion.
Rebel -- Adopted and living in Fountain Valley
Racing Name: Soul Rebel
Age: 2 Sex: M Color: Red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Rebel is a high energy, youthful grey who is curious about everything in his new life. He's fond of toys, selecting just the right one to take outside and toss into a bush. Rebel adores running laps in the backyard, then laying on the grass under a shady tree or in the wading pool. He settles down in the car once he is helped in, has learned to use the electronic doggy door, navigates tile floors, and doesn't mind sharing the house with two other greyhounds and two cats. He's a wonderful rough diamond taking shape who will make someone a great pet if they are willing to give him the time and attention that he needs to continue the transition from track to home. Rebel would do best in a home with other dogs to keep him company.
Hero -- Adopted and living in Huntington Beach
Racing Name: Jilted Hero
Age: 2 Sex: M Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/W
Hero is a young, energetic greyhound. He loves toys, flipping them in the air and pouncing on them. He loves to play fetch and will bring a toy and wait for you to toss it. Off he goes to chase it down, pounce on it, give it a good shake then bring it back. Meal time is one of his favorite times of the day. He will do a happy dance while you are preparing it. He runs in a circle, snatches a toy, and charges back to watch and wait to be told “OK.” He mastered the dog door in two days and uses it when he needs to relieve himself, or if he needs to do a lap with his toy. After a fun day he settles down well and sleeps through the night. Then he wakes up a happy boy and starts it all over again. He walks great on a leash and enjoys all the new sights he is getting to experience. He is a love bug and loves to cuddle. He would do well in a home with other dogs or people who are not gone long periods at a time.
Phillies -- Adopted and living in West Hills
Racing Name: RJ’S Phillies
Age: 5 1/2 Sex: F Color: Red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Phillies is a petite girl with a very happy-go-lucky personality. She was a veteran runner at both the Tucson and Caliente tracks. She is very quiet unless you count the sound of her tail wagging furiously every time she meets a new person or you take out the leash. She is a big daytime napper. She likes to go to bed early, sleep in and eat three meals a day. She has only been off the track a couple of weeks and so far has not figured out squeaky toys or why some of her housemates make such a big deal about them. During her public debut at the day-long Wisteria Festival, she she took a couple naps on her foster home mom’s lap, showing everyone that there is such a thing as a greyhound lap dog. It's possible that Phillies could be an only dog if her family is around to keep her company.
Kismet -- Adopted and living in Hollywood
Racing Name: AC Galaxy Kismet
Age: 4.5 Sex: F Color: White and brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Kismet is a very enthusiastic and inquisitive greyhound packed into a tiny body. She is very social and loves being in the middle of everything. She enjoys lots of activities and toys. She would probably do well as an only dog since she is very confident. She loves playing with all dogs, large and small, and she seems at times to be more like a "dog"
than a greyhound. She plays very well with the miniature pinscher in the foster home. So far she has stayed off the couches and beds but we're still working on counter surfing. She would like to be the alpha of the pack, so gentle reminders are needed occasionally to let her know the role is not up for grabs. She walks nicely on a leash and would love to be an exercise partner. She likes to snuggle and give little kisses. Kismet is a fun dog!
Theresa -- Adopted and living in Palm Springs
Racing Name: Dippity Doo Dah
Age: 2 1/2 Sex: F Color: Red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Theresa is a very playful pup. She’s a little shy at first but quickly warms up and would sit in your lap if she could. She’s very curious about everything, including people food. She would like to be the boss of her foster greyhounds but they are teaching her who’s really in charge and how to play together. She has learned to wait for her food and will stand at the door to go outside. Theresa loves to run around the backyard throwing stuffies and chasing them. She prefers to do this alone so she doesn’t run into anyone else. She has no problem with stairs and loves to go on walks. She rides well in the car and hops right in. Theresa has been to two Meet & Greets and seemed to enjoy the attention. She was very curious about the small dogs but showed no aggression. She has met the cat at our house a few times and backs away when he hisses at her. Theresa could live with a cat with supervision at first. She is a confident dog and we think she could be an only dog with her people around but would also do well with other dogs. She has a big, loving heart and is waiting for her forever home.
Carrie -- Adopted and living in La Palma
Racing Name: Ur Corina
Age: 8 Sex: F Color: White and brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: N/Y
Carrie is a beautiful, very special older grey girl who just wants to please her people. She has just discovered toys and is starting to play with them. She loves to take walks and will go for as many walks in a day as she can. She walks well on a leash, though loud noises tend to spook her at times. The foster home is working to get her more comfortable when out. Carrie does well when riding in a car. She lives with several other greyhounds and though she likes them she would also be OK as an only hound. She does have a trust issue primarily with men, especially if they are loud, but she has slowly warmed up to her foster dad. He prior life situation was far from great and she did not receive the dental care she deserved. Since coming to GreySave she has been cared for lovingly by her foster parents, seen by the vet and now is sporting significantly fewer but healthy teeth. Her foster mom reports that her low tooth count has not slowed her down at meal time. Carrie is looking for a special and loving home with a mom and maybe a gentle dad. Living with greyhounds would be fine with her. She lived with six cats previously and does not care about them either way. But Carrie never wants to live with small bossy dogs again and at her age she deserves what she wants!
Abe -- Adopted and living in Sunland
Age: 5 1/2 Sex: M Color: Fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Hi, my name is Abe. My life recently has been a bummer. A good Samaritan found me starving and injured in a riverbed near Hansen Dam. He took me in and fed me and healed my injuries. He then called Greysave to see if they could help. My soon-to-be foster mom came to check me out (to see if I was really a greyhound!) and took me home with her. So things are finally looking up. I am living with three other dogs and several cats and get along with everybody. I am a bit timid at times because I'm not used to all this loving attention. I have lots of fun picking apricots off the tree and playing with squeaky toys. I am ready to find my forever home.
Linda -- Adopted and living in Pinion Hills
Racing Name: Kiowa Link
Age: 5 Sex: F Color: Brindle and white
Small dog/cat tolerant: W/N
Linda is a beautiful, playful girl who acts more like she's two years old than five. She is extremely curious about her new life away from the track, and has had to learn that awful “no” word. At first when told “no” she would just wiggle and wag that tail, smile and charm you, and yes she did charm her way into our hearts, but she has learned that “no “ means no. She will push gently to get her own way, but she so wants your approval that staying gently firm and giving hugs for good behavior has worked well. Linda has a truly lovely disposition, gentle, alert, eager to please, sensitive to her environment, very affectionate, and gets along well with the greyhounds in her foster home. She is not food or bed aggressive. She watched every minute of the recent dog shows on TV, sometimes running up to the TV and then searching for the dog. She will be a great companion--loving, loyal, fun and easy to live with. She could be an only dog if not left alone for long periods. Her future adopters must love to snuggle and tolerate squeaky toys.
Will -- Adopted and living in Pasadena
Racing Name: Concho Willie
Age: 3 Sex: M Color: White and red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Will is a large, beautiful and friendly greyhound. He is a big leaner, hugger and kisser and absolutely loves to be petted. He is very curious while walking and is constantly searching for new sights to see. Will also loves to look out windows and watch the world go by. He gets along great with his greyhound housemates but doesn't play with them. Will prefers to be with his people. He will follow you around and watch you with his big, beautiful, brown eyes. Will lived with an ancient beagle and barely noticed his strange, non-greyhound ways. He likes to gnaw on treats like cow hoofs, denta-sticks, and round bones. He likes his nap times and is often the first one to bed in the evening. He will scoot into the bedroom, find the most comfortable bed, settle in and sleep all night. Will came to us with a front toe broken in two places and the nail nearly ripped out. The toe has been removed. Now that his foot has healed he takes long walks and pretty much ignores the missing digit. He is housebroken and uses a dog door, although he is more than happy to have you open the door and go out with him. He rides very well in the car and is one of those truly loving, big greyhound boys. Will would make an excellent only dog where he could benefit from all of the attention and love he craves.
Fiona -- Adopted and living in Pasadena
Racing Name: Kiowa Flyin High
Age: 4 3/4 Sex: F Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N
Fiona is a sweet, playful girl who loves to exercise in the yard and play with the two poodles in her foster family. She is a quick learner and loves to take long walks on leash as well as rides in the car. She has mastered the dog door. Independent Fiona would do well as an only dog. She does not like to share her walks or yard with cats and will try to give chase. She is the only greyhound we have fostered that actually likes to sit on her back legs and observe the world around her. Fiona is an easy dog who adapts readily to a new environment.
Redd -- Adopted and living in Winnetka
Racing Name: Redd Fawn
Age: 2 1/2 Sex: F Color: Red fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Redd is a charming, sensitive grey who is slowly transitioning into her new retirement environment. She has learned to climb stairs, loves walks in the park, and squirrel watching. She thinks a soft bed is the best place to spend the day. Although she hasn't learned to play with toys yet, Redd does watch the other two greyhounds in her foster home play and hopefully will catch on soon. She has a great appetite, so training to use the doggy door and the stairs using food as an incentive has been a great help. She is currently living with two cats and shows no interest in them. Redd would do best in a home with other dogs to provide companionship.
Krull -- Adopted and living in Sun City
Racing Name: AC Galaxy Krull
Age: 4 1/2 Sex: M Color: White and brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Krull is a well behaved, self-confident boy. He has adjusted quickly to condo life, gets along with his two greyhound housemates, and causes no drama when foster mom leaves. He is cautious but not shy when meeting new people and just loves his retirement life. Krull enjoys car rides but walks are his favorite. Squirrels, cats, and small dogs are interesting but not a distraction. He is not bothered by street noise, and is curious when exploring the neighborhood, but lets nothing interfere with his walks. Krull is delighted with squeaky toys and chews and can amuse himself for long periods of time. His affection comes with his trust, and it is well worth waiting for. With his maturity and self-confidence, Krull would probably fit into most homes as an only dog, but would need a short period of support from his people. He is an active, playful boy so a yard with a dog door would be a dream come true.
Glide -- Adopted and living in Los Angeles
Racing Name: RD's Glide
Age: 3 1/2 Sex: F Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
I'm so much better looking than my picture. I have it all: good looks, good temperament, and I'm very loving. I greet every new person with a tail wag. I like to chase other dogs at the park, but future furry friends need not be concerned because I will treat everyone, including the little guys, with respect. Even cats are OK, I guess, but hardly worth my time after a quick sniff. All the cats I've met so far seem equally uninterested in me, too. I love to go anywhere, especially a walk or car ride. I can't tell you how many times I've been to Trader Joe's. Like most all of my greyhound friends I like consistency and routine. Tell me and show me what you want and I will fit in. You know I'm finding it pretty nice here. I can be had but you will have to be special or at least have better toys.
Pepper -- Adopted and living in West Hills
Age: 5 Sex: F Color: Black
Small dog/cat tolerant: N/N
Pepper is one of the most affectionate greyhounds we have fostered in over fifteen years. She loves all people, just as much as her dog friends. She sleeps quietly through the night and during the middle of the day, but when it’s playtime she has energy to burn! Pick up the leash and she's ready to go. She loves to walk and hike, and might be a greyhound that will do some lite jogging with her human(s). She walks nicely on a leash, but occasionally can get excited when she sees another dog, making good progress in this area. Pepper can be a bit of a klutz at times, probably because she never trained for racing. Tall for a female, with a sleek coat, she has a crooked nose, an underbite, and a jutting tooth that just add to her goofy, playful demeanor. Pepper is very attentive, intelligent, and responds well to guidance. She isn’t overly possessive of food, toys, or chews, with any of the dogs she has been around. Pepper will do best in a home that provides adequate physical and mental activity. She thrives on consistent leadership and structure from her human(s).
Touché -- Adopted and living in Glendale
Racing Name: Bacs Touche
Age: 2 Sex: F Color: Red brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Touché is an incredibly sweet and soft two-year-old brindle girl. After just three races, she dislocated her toe and earned a well-deserved early retirement. Although Touché is still a bit shy, she is coming out of her shell more and more every day. Her kind and gentle personality shines through and she is always up for cuddling and hugging. She is currently living with three other greyhounds and an Italian Greyhound, and gets along perfectly with the pack. Touché likes companionship and is perfectly happy to share toys and beds. Although her toe is still sore, she is learning to play and likes to be with the group. Mostly, though, she is anxious to get lots of love from her humans. She is quite content to nap upside-down on a cozy bed and have her tummy rubbed. Once her toe heals up she will be ready to run and play with her new family!
Flight -- Adopted and living in Laguna Niguel
Racing Name: Delayed Flight
Age: 3 1/2 Sex: M Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Flight a handsome and snuggly dog. Everyone that meets Flight loves him instantly. He will snuggle and lean on anyone who gives him the chance. He accepted our toddler grandchildren just like he had been with them his whole life and never even flinches when they do the usual toddler doggie inspections. He is a bit timid, but gets security from his Lab house-sister Lucy. If Lucy does something then Flight is more likely to try it. He immediately accepted the Rottweiler’s head-of-pack position. Flight does not care for car rides yet. However his lack of enthusiasm for the car is made up for when the words “walk" or "park" are spoken. He enjoys his walk most of all when Lucy is with him. He enjoys playing with stuffed toys, pouncing on them and just having fun. He is beginning to get the idea that a tennis ball is also a good toy, although he is more into chewing than chasing at this point. He is figuring out how to play with the other dogs. He barely gives cats attention on our walks. While he meets all dogs nicely, he does not like to be around yappy dogs; he will try to steer the walk away from the noise. He barks when strangers come around. Staying home alone with the other dogs has not been a problem at all. Flight will do best with a quieter household and with the companionship of a friendly, not hyper, other dog. He will make a wonderful companion for the right people and other dog.
Blizzard -- Adopted and living in Los Alamitos
Racing Name: Hallo Blizzard
Age: 4 1/2 Sex: M Color: White and ticked
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/W
Blizzard is the poster boy for the classic mellow and easy going greyhound. He is a perfectly mannered gentleman who shares food with his housemates and lets the bossy small dog in the house take things away from him. He spends most of the day lying around the house on a cushy bed and gets up for walks and to play occasionally with a toy. He walks nicely on a leash and wags his tail enthusiastically when the leashes come out. He is fairly independent and could possibly be an only dog if given enough attention and could also live in a condo since he has taken retirement seriously and doesn’t care to run anymore. He ignores small dogs and even chickens, and will most likely be fine with cats even though he is not currently living with any.
Tilly -- Adopted and living in Huntington Beach
Racing Name: RJ's Tilly
Age: 3 1/2 Sex: F Color: Red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Tilly is an adorable, petite little girl. She is recovering very well from her broken leg and should be released by the doctor in early January. She's a very easygoing dog but she's still wary of strange noises on the street. Tilly likes her toys and would love to be running around and playing on her leg. Once she's able she will enjoy long walks and chasing balls and toys. She is very gentle and gets along very well with others. She's a bit on the insecure side so she would do well with at least one other dog for confidence building. Tilly has a loving personality and insists on spending time being close to her humans. When going to bed she likes having a blankie over her now that the weather is cooler.
Ricardon -- Adopted and living in Riverside
Racing Name: El Ricardon
Age: Sex: M Color: White and fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant: W/N
Ricardon is a beautiful white greyhound. He has some dark patches around his ears and pale red freckles over his body. This handsome fellow will follow you around and keep you company. He is quiet and mellow most of the time. But he has a playful streak and can also be a bit of a goof. He loves his meals and will carry his bowl around, hoping for some more. He is also a big love sponge, leaning into you for head rubs and happily rolling over for a good belly rub. He is great around our other greyhounds and other medium to large dogs. He is not good around cats. Ricky is house broken and uses a dog door. He is also learning appropriate manners around the kitchen. Ricky does love apples and bananas and can't resist the temptation if they are left alone on the table. He would do well in a home with older children and in homes where he is not left alone for long periods of time. He is confident and may do well as an only dog. Anyone that sees him can't help but fall in love with this gentle boy.
Ellie -- Adopted and living in Santa Monica
Racing Name: Flying Enid
Age: 5 1/2 Sex: F Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/W
Ellie has settled in with the other greyhounds she lives with. She has learned the doggy door and uses it. She is not one to lay out in the yard, however; she prefers a soft bed. Ellie has had no problems with the stairs, even sleeping downstairs at times. She does want her own bed and would rather not have any dog right next to her. Ellie is quite comfortable in another room but will come check on us and get some love before going back to a bed. She loves to go for a walk and will make you feel guilty if you don't take her. It takes a couple of minutes for her to calm down when her family comes home. She would like to counter surf, but a simple no will make her wait. She knows no strangers and is a very happy, loving dog. She recently met a smallish dog and was fine with him. She would probably be OK with cats if the adopter worked with her.
Joy -- Adopted and living in Los Angeles
Racing Name: Joy La Prince
Age: 4 1/2 Sex: F Color: Red fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Joy is a petite girl that is very sweet and a bit timid. She lives with three small dogs, several cats and three children. She has not figured out playing with the other dogs yet but enjoys watching their silly games. She has warmed up wonderfully to her foster mom and the children but is still a bit uncertain when she meets new people or has new experiences. Joy will be a wonderful greyhound companion when she becomes a bit more secure in her new life. She would be best in a home with another greyhound or dog and with a soft-spoken and loving family.
Daphne -- Adopted and living in Whittier
Racing Name: KK's Daphne
Age: 4 1/2 Sex: F Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/N
Daphne is a sweet, gentle greyhound. She's a little shy at first but is now playing with her stuffies and new hound friends. She lives with an Italian greyhound, a whippet and a greyhound sister. Daphne is a smart girl and aims to please her humans. She had no trouble learning the doggie door and has never had an accident in the house. She eats well and walks nicely on the leash. Our wood floors are pretty slippery so we need to remind her to be careful and walk slowly, especially around corners. All ages of children come and go at our home and Daphne loves them all. They love her calm and affectionate temperament. This racing superstar deserves the very best forever home.
Casey-- Adopted and living in Alhambra
Racing Name: PMD Casey
Age: 3 1/2 Sex: M Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Casey is a beautiful boy. Maybe a little shy at first, but he warms up quickly. He wins the prize as the quickest learner of the doggie door. He went out it about 30 seconds after first entering the house and he’s been a pro with it ever since. Casey is the quintessential greyhound. He was housebroken fast but that’s about all he is fast at. He only raced twice and he brings that same laziness to his retired life. He sleeps soundly, walks nicely, and eats gratefully. He won’t jump into the car, but will settle in for the ride once he is helped in. He fits in well with his foster pack and he pretty much ignores the four cats in his foster home. He is much more interested in leaning on us while getting a good petting. His eyes speak softly and seem to tell everyone he meets how happy he is to be allowed to be a cockroaching couch potato. His coat is silky soft, just like his eyes. Casey has crawled into the hearts of both his foster moms. He is a star. His people will be lucky to adopt him.
Walter -- Adopted and living in Whittier
Racing Name: Watchintheladies
Age: 2 1/2 Sex: M Color: Red fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Walter is a great big, sweet boy. He settled in very easily, went to the door when he needed to go out from day one and has literally ignored the cats. Small dogs don’t make much of an impression on him either. He is a bit uneasy in new situations but as long as there is a person nearby to comfort him, he is okay. He was very anxious to greet us when we came home at the beginning but he seems to have settled down a bit. I think he is getting used to the fact that we will return. He might be able to be an only dog but certainly not a lonely one. He is a slow eater and is starting to play with toys. He has no interest in getting on the couch or bed and sleeps well on a pet bed beside us at night. He dropped a toy right in front of the mirror, stood and looked at himself for a bit then barked. I think he wanted “the other dog” to pick up the toy and play! He also has growled at his reflection in the window, but gets along fine with the real greyhounds in the house.
Roada -- Adopted and living in Glendale
Racing Name: Opal Roada
Age: 4 3/4 Sex: F Color: Red
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Roada is a sweet, gentle, fawn girl who will turn 5 in March. After a long racing career, Roada is really relaxing and enjoying her retirement. She is extremely loving and will approach her humans for hugs and return the favor with kisses on the face. She is somewhat laid back and quiet, but is now discovering the joy of toys. She especially loves chewing on tennis balls and wrestling a bit with stuffed animals. Roada is currently living with three other greyhounds and an Italian Greyhound. While she does well with the pack, she would probably be equally happy as an only dog in a household where her humans can spend a good deal of time with her. She loves going for walks and is a perfect lady on the leash. She also mastered the doggie door very quickly and has great manners. Roada is a wonderful and loving companion.
Cloverfield -- Adopted and living in Riverside
Racing Name: Cloverfield
Age: 2 1/2 Sex: M Color: Red brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: W/N
"Clover" has settled into our household very nicely. He learned the doggie door quickly; he has now also learned that's where turn-out is. He loves to play with the toys, tossing them into the air, and running up and down the hall--much to the amusement of our doggies. He follows us around the house, staying near wherever we are. He is just learning about being petted. He gives little kisses, but we have been careful about reaching out to pet him because it seems to startle him. He now greets us with the greyhound bow and great excitement. He has a strong preference for which bed he wants to use, and if one of our doggies is there, he stands waiting for them to move. He is somewhat sensitive, and only needs a gentle "no." He seems to think he is a watchdog; he lets us know when people arrive at the house. He does well on walks; one person can walk him with our other two dogs. He is quite alert to small animals that we find along our route but doesn't show aggression. Clover is a beautiful boy and very sweet. He will make a wonderful pet.
Murdock -- Adopted and living in Dana Point
Racing Name: Mo Dog
Age: 3 Sex: M Color: White and brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: N/N
Murdock is big, sweet, and highly affectionate. He has a goofy, playful manner and is very curious. He loves playing with his toys and will toss them in the air and chase them. He absolutely loves his people and would like to have them around all the time. He likes to follow us from room to room and will usually settle down for a nap wherever we stop. He is house broken and has learned to use the dog door. He gets along very well with the other dogs (greyhounds) in the house, but he shows a bit too much curiosity in little critters. He would probably do best in a dog-experienced home.
Dyra -- Adopted and living in Glendale
Racing Name: Dyra Straits
Age: 4 Sex: F Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Dyra is a striking dark brindle girl. She has a little bit of white here and there and on the tip of her tail. She is very friendly and quite curious about her new world. She does want to follow you wherever you go. She is not obnoxious, just very curious. She wasn't very friendly with the cats in her foster home at first, but has come to ignore them more and more. She rides well in the car and is good on the leash. She learned the dog door the first night by following the other dogs. She plays with toys but hasn't played with the other dogs yet. She would do well in a home with another dog or a person home most of the time. Dyra can also bark, so an apartment would not be a good choice for her.
Karma -- Adopted and living in San Gabriel
Racing Name: AC Galaxy Karma
Age: 4 1/2 Sex: F Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Karma is a very social and curious girl. She is friendly to just about everyone. She wants to explore everything, high and low, including doing a bit of counter surfing. Karma responds well to praise and can be distracted easily with hugs and praise. When excited she does a little prancing and dancing routine, very feminine and very cute. Karma did have some space issues when she came off the track, but she now will join another dog in a favored sleeping spot. She still is not interested in sharing her food, however. Karma has never had a potty accident in the house. She has just started playing with toys, and is learning what is and is not a toy. She is so darn cute in her playful antics that often her foster mom watches her play for a few seconds (if the toy object is not really a doggie toy) before correcting her, again simply distracting her with praise while giving her an appropriate toy. And she joyfully runs off, happy with the praise and new toy. This little girl is happy, affectionate, curious about her new life off the track, intelligent, and silly. She has a medium energy level, rides well in the car, walks well on lead and loves her walks. Karma will be a fun and loving companion.
Vanessa -- Adopted and living in Long Beach
Racing Name: Concho Vanilla
Age: 2 1/2 Sex: F Color: Dark brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Vanessa is a sweet, petite bundle of energy and love. This darling little girl has loads of personality and puppyish charm and wins the hearts of everyone she meets. Vanessa was quick to learn how to use the doggy door, and mastered potty training without accidents. She does remarkably well on walks, loves car rides. She tosses squeaky toys into the air and catches them. Vanessa enjoys the companionship of two other greyhounds in the house, and could care less about the two cats. She thinks that soft, cozy beds are one of the best inventions since sliced bread. She would probably do well in a home with other canine friends to keep her company.
Rooby -- Adopted and living in Highland
Racing Name: Shodo N Shoobebo
Age: 8 Sex: F Color: Red fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Rooby is a petite charmer with lady-like manners and style. She rates an A+ in condo living -- no accidents, gets along with her two Greyhound housemates, no drama when foster mom leaves, extremely well behaved and a delight to have around. Roo loves car rides and looks forward to her walks. Squirrels, cats, and small dogs are not a problem. She tolerates street noise, but rock concerts or fireworks are definitely not on her preferred list. She loves car rides and looks forward to visiting her adoring public at the neighborhood coffee shop. She is easily directed and knows the various behavior commands. Roo’s happiest when her person is nearby. Hugs are a high priority! She is self-confident and would probably be a good fit in most homes. However, she would enjoy and thrive in an environment where she is the only dog and her person is nearby to enjoy her love and affection. Rooby came to us with an chronic dry eye condition called Pannus and will need to be given eye drops daily all her life. Other than that she is a very healthy grey girl.
Fran -- Adopted and living in Yorba Linda
Racing Name: RJ's Fabled Fran
Age: 4 1/2 Sex: F Color: Brindle
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Fran is one of the easiest fosters we've had. She hasn't had a single potty accident in the house. When she needs to go outside, she will cry and go the the back door. We don't have a dog door, but this little girl is so clever that she likely would figure one out very quickly. She couldn't be better with our little dog and is also good with the three greyhounds in her foster pack. She loves our five-year-old granddaughter and is very gentle with her. She loves to be in the kitchen when we're cooking. Fran is perfect in the car--she jumps right in, lays down, rides quietly and doesn't get sick. She is very gentle on a leash. She hasn't shown any interest in playing with toys yet but does seem amused to watch the other dogs play with them. We will miss her goofy helicopter tail and wonderful personality. Fran is sweet, beautiful, happy and in fact she is frantastic!
Mallory -- Adopted and living in La Habra
Racing Name: Koyote Malo
Age: 2 1/2 Sex: M Color: Red fawn
Small dog/cat tolerant: Y/Y
Mallory is a very good looking, tall, lean boy with a cute personality. He is living with several small dogs and cats and seems to think he is a small dog. He plays well with the little guys and pretty much ignores the cats. He is easy going and lovable and just a big teddy bear who wants to be petted. Mallory is young for retirement and has spurts of energy. His favorite games are scouting for lizards and playing ball or chase with the youngish dog at his foster home. He is a good citizen in the house, which he also shares with several young children. Since Mallory is young and active and has learned to play like a "real dog," he should go to a home that can provide opportunities for play and exercise. The family who adopts Mallory will just love his enthusiasm and eagerness to please.
