Libra-- Adopted and living in San Pedro
Libra is very sweet and likes any and all two legged creatures. She's
perky, petite, and cute, and she knows it! If you want to come home
to an enthusiastic greeting every day without fail, "Miss Kitty"
(as she's been nicknamed) may be the dog for you. She's really well-behaved,
and gets along great with the other greyhounds in her foster home.
Unlike many greyhounds that want to get in your lap,
this "pocket-sized" greyhound will “actually fit”
in your lap. She had a very successful racing career.
She walks great on a leash, and loves to take walks
and go for rides in the car. She may not be the best choice for
families with cats, however.
D'mitri -- Adopted and living in Sierra Madre
D'mitri is a black male.
Ebony-- Adopted and living in Orange
Ebony is a beautiful, small, maybe 40 pound beauty. She has a tuxedo
chest, four white paws and a white tipped tail. She just arrived
from the Bakersfield shelter, may be as young as 9 months old and
may be Pippin’s littermate! Though we have only known her
for a short time she seems very sweet, a bit timid and is now living
in a foster home with cats.
Opal-- Adopted and living in West Hollywood
Opal
is a very sweet
3 1/2-year-old brindle girl who loves everyone. She especially enjoys
being petted and of course likes to be the center of attention.
Everyone who meets her just adores her. She gets along with all
breeds of dogs, even the smaller terrier types that yap at her while
she is out for her walk. She shouldn't live with a cat, however.
She walks well on a leash and would prefer to live with another
dog if at all possible.
Aries-- Adopted and living in Long Beach
Aries loves people and really enjoyed getting out, meeting adults
and kids at the Meet & Greet. He is very sweet, unassuming and
likes to be cuddled. He loves his stuffies and will play on his
own with great gusto and then take s a few to bed with him. He walks
pretty well on leash for just leaving the track and likes to ride
in the car once he gets in. You know, he is like lots of males he
just can't jump! He is a velcro boy and will follow his foster family
from room to room. He gets along well with both males and female
greyhounds and might do okay as an only dog but only if his people
are home with him often. He is a lovely dark brindle with a black
mask, a white racing stripe on his nose, white socks and tail tip.
Yes, lets admit it he has a very unique look for a racing greyhound.
Aries is smart and has adapted quickly to the routine of his foster
home and will be a quick study in his forever home. He would prefer
to live with a family that is home more than not, and will patiently
work with him so he feels comfortable while they are gone. Aries
does seem to like and find comfort in his crate when his people
are gone. And finally, Aries is a team player and likes to join
in a group “"roo"” if given the opportunity!
Topaz
-
Adopted and
living in Canyon Country
Topaz is a white with brindle male. Topaz is a 3 1⁄2-year-old
greyhound lad with great eyes and a multicolored coat. He is quite
mellow, has not discovered playing with toys yet but has never missed
an opportunity to be petted by his human friends. He really likes
people, even those he has never met before, including the busy 5-year-old
granddaughter that wanted him to play ball or chase a toy. Topaz
lives well with 5 cats, a Dalmatian and another greyhound but does
not like the small fuzzy terrier dogs that live nearby and bark
at him when he walks. Topaz would like to live in a home where there
are none of those pesky critters. He might be OK in a home with
no other dogs, but his people would need to be home some time during
the day to make sure he's not too lonely.
Pearl
-
Adopted and
living in North Hollywood
Pearl is a real beauty. She has a white body with a widow’s
peak of brindle and gray on her face. Pearl is just over 2 years
old and somewhat playful in spurts. Her favorite game is collecting
toys, walking around with them and then putting them on her dog
bed. Pearl lives with a pesky beagle that often acts like prey but
she understands he is a dog and probably would not taste good. She
has met several Pug size dogs that she thought were OK but has yet
come to terms with the small fluffy dogs that bark a lot and look
like that lure that had at the track. Pearl is well behaved on a
leash, loves to ride in the car and hang out with the other hounds
and her foster parents. Pearl absolutely loves her walks and has
to be the 1st one out the door. While out walking she misses nothing.
She spots birds, dogs, people, images in shiny car doors and windows
but behaves quite nicely while checking them out. When Pearly is
quite pleased with a specific sight she will prance like a show
pony.
Vixen
-
Adopted and living in West Hills
Vixen is a pretty little princess that loves to play with her toys.
She would love it if the other dogs in the foster home played
with her, but they just give her the evil eye as this two year old
tosses toys in the air at 6am. Vixen is a social butterfly,
loving all people and especially children. She is curious
about the new world and loves walking all over the place. Vixen
can't live in a home with cats or very tiny dogs, but she will keep
your yard clear of all rats, opossums and other potential invaders.
Ruby
-- Adoption
and living in Bakersfield
Ruby is a small, gentle, loving black female. She has been adjusting
very quickly to life in her foster home. She gets along great with
her new foster greyhound brothers and sisters. She should be able
to live with small dogs and cats. She has a great appetite, so she
should be easy to train. She's still trying to figure out the "baffling
hall of mirrors" (our mirrored closet doors).
Blitzen
-
Adopted and
living in Chatsworth
Blitzen is an extremely sweet, loving, gentle, sensitive and somewhat
shy boy in a tall body. He has deep penetrating eyes that just
call to you in a way that only a greyhound can. He loves to watch
his people and whenever possible will follows his foster mom or
dad around the house. He gets along great with other greyhounds
and lives with a beautiful greyhound girl and a cattle dog. Blitzen
would prefer to live in a home with another dog that will play with
him and an adoptive parent who wants to keep him close and give
him lots of love. He should be able to live with a cat as well.
He is a true charmer!
Ace
-
Adopted and living in Bakersfield
Ace is a very well behaved, easy going, and affectionate 3 year
old male. He loves to sun himself during the day and would
do best in a home with a yard. He plays with stuffies and
likes to play chase games with the spunky female foster in the home.
When there were no other fosters, he was just as mellow as the older
dogs in the home, so he will work with a variety of other dogs and
energy levels. He enjoys going on walks and is well behaved
on a leash, now that he has had a bit of training. He knows
the down command and is working on some other tricks. Snuggling
and following mom around the house are his favorite pastimes.
He is great with kids and is constantly wagging his tail.
He gets along great with all small dogs, even an 8 pound miniature
pinscher that wanted to boss him around, but he is overly curious
when a cat runs across the street.
Rudolph
-
Adopted and living in Bakersfield
Rudolph is one playful boy. He LOVES stuffed
toys. He'll play with other dogs, with people, or by himself --have
toy, will play. Rudy is also very affectionate and thinks people
were put in his life to give pets and tummy rubs. This sweetheart
with the soft eyes and happy-go-lucky demeanor longs to be a true
family member, interacting with people and participating in your
life. Rudy can't live in a home with cats or very small dogs. See
a picture of him with his reindeer antlers at the bottom of the ADOPT page.
Phantom
-
Adopted and living in Summerland
Phantom is a bluish fawn small female that is truly
a joy to have around. She is very sweet and mellow ususally
hanging out around wherever the people are. She is probably
2½ to 3 years old. However, we are not sure since she was
found roaming in the hills of the San Fernando Valley. She
gets along well will the other hounds in the house, and likes to
play with them or occasionally the toys. She enjoys her people
more than other dogs and delights in being part of any and every
family activity. She is exceptionally good with children,
giving them as much love as they can handle. She would prefer
a home where she could sleep in bed with her people, but she is
not allowed to do that in her foster home because there is already
a bossy greyhound who rules the bed. Bully stix or hooves
are her favorite for chewing entertainment. Phantom has very nice
manners and walks well on a leash. She is just waiting for
the perfect lap that she can lay her head in.
Capricorn
-
Adopted and living in Long Beach
Capricorn is a sweet boy in a big body. He
loves to walk with his humans and is very good on leash. He
does especially well on leash together with our other grey, Taz.
He is very mellow, but will greet you at the door with a hearty
roo. He is very patient with the young cousins come over
to play. He has done well with housebreaking,
has learned the stairs, and gets along with the cat. He has
liked every dog he's met, no matter the size or personality.
He hasn't learned to get up on the sofas yet, but likes it there
if you drag him up with you. He will make a loving and loyal
member of his forever family.
Emma
-
Adopted and living in Van Nuys
Emma is a sweet, calm 4 1/2 year old female. She lives
with a male and a female greyhound and a cat. She is learning how
to behave from the other two dogs as she basically follows their
lead. She learned how to use the doggie-door the first day - to
the extent that she will ONLY use that door, not the regular doors.
Emma pretty much ignores the cat, which is what we like to see.
She is curious, as so much of this stuff is new to her. She gets
excited to have her leash put on - since that means either a walk
or a ride in the car. Emma is looking for a loving forever home,
as she will bring lot's of joy and love to a special family.
Aquarius
- Adopted and living in Claremont
Aquarius is a soft, feminine little snuggle
girl. Her favorite thing is to be close to and snuggling with
her humans. She will even stop eating and come over to give
some love. She gets along well with the other dogs, but prefers
her humans. She is eager to please and sensitive to her environment,
she will be a wonderful companion. She is low energy except
on walks where she still pulls a bit. Aquarius should not live
with cats or very small animals, as she is way to interested in
them. She is a joy as a foster dog.
May-
Adopted and living in Montebello
May is a very pretty black
greyhound girl with a white and graying face that makes her look
wise beyond her years. She is 6 1/2, very sweet, gentle and loving.
She recently lost her adopted mom due to a family illness and came
back to live with her foster mom. May is cat and kitten safe and
would love to find a new forever home where she can be petted, kept
safe, warm and close.
Taurus
- Adopted and living in Chino
Taurus is a sweet, gentle dog with lots of curiosity.
He loves squeaky toys and he'll carry them right out the doggy door
to liberate into the back yard. He is a little too interested
in small animals but he gets along well with larger dogs and he
LOVES people. He will even give an occasional kiss.
He enjoys walking on the leash and he doesn't pull, but looks at
mom to check if he's doing things right. Taurus is still learning
manners when people are eating. He's happy to clear away any
food left on the counter . This is a great dog with lots
of personality.
Maverick
- Adopted
in Goleta. Crossed the Rainbow Bridge in 2007.
Meet Maverick, now named Pippin, was our first official
adoptable! He is a 4month old "tuxedo dog" (black with
white markings) who was found in an animal shelter in Bakersfield.
Maverick is a typical puppy - full of energy and spirit! He's already
learning to live comfortably with cats and kittens, and seems to
really enjoy playing with "stuffies". Maverick is a total
"lap dog" who loves to cuddle and be close to his humans.
Gemini
- Adopted and living in Beverly
Hills
Gemini is a beautiful petite red girl with dark mascara
and deep eyes. She is very sweet, lovable and quite Velcro. She
likes dogs just fine but would prefer to keep her eye on her foster
mom. She is just beginning to discover that toys squeak and just
fun to toss! Gemini is looking for a home where she can be loved
petted and cuddled.
Prancer
- Adopted and living in Pasadena
My name is Prancer. I am a playful 4 year old female. I
love to play with my squeaker toys and chase the ball in the
backyard. Rubbing along the side of the bed in the morning
is how I wake my mom up. I'm very curious about other dogs,
but am a bit shy around them. Eating is one of the things
I enjoy the most. I live with a 5 year old male greyhound
who doesn't show much interest in me. I try to play with him,
but he's not very playful. I enjoy going for daily walks and
on outings with my new family. The two kids, ages 11 and 5,
are fun to be around. I'm very gentle, but can be spunky at
times. Getting affection from everyone makes me happy.
I'm a sweet girl who would love to be in a home where I will get
attention and maybe have another dog who'd like to play.
Pilot - Adopted by GreySave
Dasher
- Adopted and living in Glendale
My name is Dasher and I'm a tall boy only 3 years old. I
love to run around the yard with my foster sister and brother greys.
When I want to go out, I "roooo" to let my foster Mom
know. I'm learning to play with toys, and I sometimes take pillows
and stuffed animals from the sofa, not knowing they belong to a
little girl named Samantha. I like Samantha because she runs with
me in the yard. I'm not quite sure yet what I'm doing in a house
instead of the track, but I can tell you I like it! I follow my
foster Mom and Dad everywhere. They tell me I'm a very sweet boy
with big brown eyes.
Dancer
- Adopted and living in Redondo Beach
She is the sweetest dog ever!!!....she is playful and very social.....she
ALWAYS greets you with a ton of kisses.....she is very well behaved
in her ex-pen, even with all the other dogs sleeping in another
room....she is almost house trained and absolutely loves the outdoors!!!....she
sleeps all thru the night 8pm-7am......she gets along
fabulously with all my other dogs and is fasinated with the squirls
in the yard.....she eats any and everything if allowed.....she isn't
allowed on any of our furniture but i'm sure would love someone's
lap if given it.....I can't say anything bad about Dancer other
than she's a little slow on learning the stairs!!!!....if I didn't
already have 3 dogs, I would keep her in a heartbeat!!!!...she's
a true lover!!!
Bandit
- Adopted and living in Anaheim
Bandit (so named because of his black mask on an otherwise brindle
boy) is 8 months old, loves to just hang out with his people.
He is fond of toys and will fetch and try
to play soccer with tennis balls. He learns quickly and easily,
loves to please and is cat safe, though he wishes they were less
snooty and would romp and play with him.
Scout
- Adopted and living in Newbury Park
Scout is one of the nicest fosters I have had, very mellow
and easy going, with some fun playing streaks tossing the rawhide
or toy in the air and pouncing on it. He is definitely a mama's
boy, following me from room to room. Scout wags his tail more
than any other greyhound, he even wags it if I glance at him from
across the room. He walks perfectly on a leash, and actually
comes when he's called. He's never lifted his leg even once
in the house. He likes kids and all people. He is 3
years old, cat and small dog friendly.
