Our
Mandate
The mission of GreySave Greyhound Adoptions is to
facilitate the adoptions of greyhounds, those whose racing careers
have ended, and those who have been abandoned or who are unwanted;
to positively impact the welfare of greyhounds; and to educate the
public about greyhounds, their appeal as pets, and their care. We
want to help bring about a time when no greyhounds are destroyed
at the end of their racing careers.
Our
Method
• Sources:
While the majority of GreySave's greyhounds are released from racetracks,
we also take in greyhounds from animal shelters and from individuals
who can no longer care for their pets.
• Foster homes:
While the dogs are in GreySave's experienced foster homes, we address any medical issues, help them recover from their spay or neuter, and learn
what life is like in a home.
• Public awareness:
We use “Meet and Greets” and other venues in Los Angeles,
Orange, Ventura, San Bernardino, Riverside, and Santa Barbara Counties
to let people know about GreySave and about what great pets greyhounds
make.
• Adoption process:
We use adoption applications and personality profiles of each dog,
along with visits to the homes of prospective adopters, to match
the right dog with the right home.
• Support network:
Our foster homes and placement representatives stand ready to advise
adopters as their greyhound becomes a part of their family, and
to continue to support adopters as questions arise. If a family
can no longer keep the GreySave greyhound they adopted, for whatever
reason, we will find a new home for him or her.
• Cooperation:
Whenever possible, we cooperate and work with other organizations
dedicated to greyhound rescue work in order to further facilitate
the adoption of greyhounds.

Our
People
GreySave is staffed entirely by volunteers. It has no paid positions. Most of them have
worked in greyhound rescue for many years. They give of their
time and money out of love for the dogs and commitment to the goal
of saving greyhounds.
The leadership of GreySave recognizes that its volunteers are the heart and soul of the organization. From event set up and tear down to food booths, Meet 'n' Greets, foster home volunteering, spreading the word about greyhound adoption, and giving love to rescued greyhounds, the volunteers make it possible. We seek to empower our family of volunteers through a spirit of cooperation and trust in their abilities. As the group grows, we will seek to add new volunteers with whom organizational responsibilities can be shared.

Our
Status
GreySave Greyhound Adoptions is a 501(c)(3) non-profit
California organization (# 20-5442395). It follows all mandated reporting requirements.
GreySave's efforts are supported partly by its adoption fees and
discounted services offered by veterinarians. But it would not be
able to successfully pursue its goals without donations from individuals.
